"Hi, I am running for Ward One Councilor and I need your support and vote." |
Greetings!
With school back in session, please remember to drive slowly and be courteous to those crossing our streets. While knocking doors in Adams Shore, I counted nine cars and an MBTA Bus pass before someone allowed me to cross from PGA Market to the other side of Sea Street. Although we're all in a hurry, please take the time to look out for walkers particularly at this difficult crossing area.
When you get to your destination, please remember to lock your car. I understand this takes a conscious effort and I've made it a habit since cars on my own street were left unlocked and accessed by thieves. After a rash of breaks in Merrymount, the Merrymount Association hosted a meeting with Quincy Police Lt. Dan Minton which I attended. The Quincy Police Department asks that we be vigilant and call them if we see something suspicious, see below for more info from Lt. Minton.
This weekend looks to be a lot of fun, with The Houghs Neck Chowdafest, Merrymount Neighborhood Yard Sale and The Quincy Arts Fest. It looks like Mother Nature will be cooperating with beautiful weather. I know many of us are in full speed with kids activities and fall sports, but hope to see you at these great Quincy events. I'm out most nights from 4-8pm knocking doors and look forward to hearing your concerns for Quincy, so I can best advocate for Ward One. Have a great weekend, Margaret | |

Quincy Car Breaks - Please be vigilant! |
|
|
Quincy Police Lt. Dan Minton and Community Police Office Bill Mitchell met with 80 Merrymount residents to discuss a recent incident and a rash of car breaks in our area. The officers said that car breaks are up nationally and correlate with drug problems and other community concerns. The Quincy Police Department reminds you to lock your vehicles and your homes. These breaks are considered crimes of opportunity, please clean out your cars, don't leave belongings inside. Although you may know the Dell computer box inside your car is intended for the Goodwill, it entices thieves. Don't put your pocketbook under a seat, people may be watching. You wouldn't expect a car seat or vacuum to be stolen from a car, but they have. Tools, electronic devices, such as GPS and ipod's are popular items for thieves as are the accompanying cords. Write down the serial number for your electronics as many do get recovered but are unable to be returned as owners don't know the serial numbers. Another tip is to install a sensor light that will turn on automatically when someone is in the area.
If you see something or someone suspicious, the Quincy Police Department asks that you do not engage the suspect, do not turn on the outside light or make noise, pick up your phone and call 911 or 617-479-1212 so the police can apprehend the criminal.

Houghs Neck Chowdafest, Sat, 2-6pm, $5 Admission |

THE PL aka Public Landing aka HN Maritme Center aka Hurley's Boat Rental
(if you need more directions than that you didn't grow up in THE NECK, but all are welcome, the address is 138 Bayview Ave)
As the former President of the Houghs Neck Community Council, I have chaired the Houghs Neck Chowdafest since its inception four years ago. The HNCC has worked so hard to grow this event and it has become a must attend for anyone who lives or ever lived in the Neck. This is our neighborhood reunion, giving a great opportunity to catch up with those you don't often get to see. I have joked how fun it would be just to attend this event and not manage it, and to take advantage of the City election the HNCC utilizes candidates as chowda servers for the restaurants, so that's where you'll find me this year. Wtih 25+ chowda entrants, there will be plenty of chowda and attendees get a ballot to vote for their favorite chowda in the individual and restaurant category.
Other HN organizations will be there including the Great American Bake Sale hosted by the HN Congregational Church, the Boy Scouts selling alternative foods, Captain Steve Holler of the fishing vessel November Gale selling lobster salad sandwiches (only $3) & more.
The Quincy Police Marine Unit will be taking attendees for boat rides and showcasing their unique equipment used for underwater recovery. The QPD is one of a few departments in MA with this technology and was recently commended for assiting another community recover a deceased individual within minutes of their arrival.
We will be inaugurating the New Mayor of Houghs Neck, listening to live music, a cash bar and of course selling membership and merchandise for the Houghs Neck Community Council. |
