Hamilton Specialty Bar Inc., (www.hsbsteel.com), is a Canadian company manufacturing specialty steel bar products in carbon and low alloy steels, serving a broad variety of specialty bar markets throughout the world. David Moulden, Sales Manager, will serve as the FIA Official Representative for FIA. 
 

H2Workshops & Meetings 

A2FIA Fall Meeting Registrations Still Being Accepted

 

 

FIA company and supplier senior executives are encouraged to attend the 2010 FIA Fall Meeting to take place October 25-26, 2010 at The Wyndham Peachtree Conference Center, Peachtree City (Atlanta), GA. Although guest rooms at the Wyndham are sold out, FIA has made arrangements for additional guest rooms at a similar hotel just one mile away. The Conference will begin with a lunch at approximately 12:00 Noon on the 25th and conclude at 12:00 Noon on the 26th. We'll open with favorite economist Larry Chimerine discussing key business trends. An election overview from the Laurin Baker groups follows. An overview of European forging trends from the vice President of EUROFORGE will wrap up presentations. Roundtables will end the business day. An evening cocktail reception and dinner will allow for that favorite networking time sought by all attendees. The following day will feature a look at the oil and gas market and the impact of the BP spill. Several new topics and areas relevant to the FIA Strategic Plan will then be presented. A4Marketing Workshop Speaker Slides Posted

 

Chairman Gary Hatton, Ellwood City Forge and the rest of the FIA Marketing Committee programmed another successful Marketing Workshop. With 80 sales and marketing professionals in attendance, the program was comprised of professional sales trainers, economists and experts on the "new" China as well as the growing worldwide nuclear energy market. The 18th International Forgemasters Meeting (IFM) will bring together hundreds of forging and supplier executives representing leading manufacturing companies from across the globe.  This extraordinary event - to be held in downtown Pittsburgh, USA -- will showcase the best in forging technical presentations for the worldwide forging community.

A8Two New Safety Tip Sheets Posted

The FIA Safety & Health Committee has developed two new Safety Tip Sheets: "Mobile Equipment 3 Foot Rule" and "Hot Work Safety Checklist". Safety Tip Sheets are developed by the FIA Safety & Health Committee, and address common hazards found within the forging industry. The purpose of these Safety Tips is to suggest some basic steps to minimize the risk of injuries associated with working in the forge shop.

A9FIA Participates at ASIAFORGE


FIA's Executive Vice President, Roy Hardy, was honored to be invited to participate in the 3rd ASIAFORGE meeting in Shanghai, China.  In addition to over 12 technical papers, Forging Trends for all 5 AsiaForge member countries were presented as well as the status of the forging industry in Europe and North America.  The event was attended by over 500 delegates from 16 countries with 40 table top displays.  The final 2 days of the conference included 5 different tour groups visiting 18 forging plants throughout China.

A10Global Networking & Benchmarking - FIA Speaks at EUROFORGE Meeting in Brussels

 

FIA President Kevin Crowley and staff member Karen Lewis attended the EUROFORGE Automotive Working Group and General Assembly meetings recently held in Brussels, Belgium.

 

Lewis gave a presentation on North American Economic Trends and an Overview of the Forging Industry to over 40 forging producers and association executives from Belgium, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Poland, Spain and Turkey.

 

Among the information shared in the meetings was the Total 2009 Worldwide Forging Production as calculated by EUROFORGE - see below:

A11FIA to Exhibit at Power-Gen International 2010

 

FIA will represent its Member companies through exhibition at the Power Gen International Show, December 14-16, 2010, at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL. Over 18,000 attendees are expected  for the power industry's three-day information exchange designed to share practical experiences, knowledge and ideas on the latest trends and challenges. Plenty of Forging Capability Guide CDs promoting member custom forging services will be distributed. It's expected that many domestic and offshore forging operations will send personnel to prospect this growing market segment. H7FDMC Activities 

A13FDMC Bus Trips

 

FDMC Bus Trips is one element of the Work Force Development efforts within the FAST Program.  This content and approach could be adapted within the Forging Technology Roadmap for the Outreach to High School Students, Voc Tech Students, College Students, Buyers and Designers of Forgings, etc.  

 

Folks receive presentations on their way to the site.  At the forge, they see what they just heard.  It makes for a strong One - Two Punch. 

 

Several FIA member companies have participated in these events including Canton Drop Forge, Bula Forge, Carbo Forge, Lenape Forged Products, and Carolina Forge to name a few.
