GS1 Databar-The Future is Here Today!

 GS1 Databar June 2011

The GS1 DataBar, is a robust bar code that incorporates up to 74 digits on coupons. The new standard has been sharing space on manufacturer coupons since 2008 with the traditional but more limited 12-digit UPC-A bar code.  Additionally, the new barcode carries GS1 Application Identifiers that contain information like lot numbers, and expiration dates. These data elements create solutions that support product authentication and traceability for fresh food products and couponing. Implementing the new format takes some planning and an evaluation of your existing scanners, POS Software, Scales, Label Printers, and Bar Code Design Software. If you're not ready, or have questions, please contact Postec grocery@postec.com. We're ready to assist you.
