We are all settling in to the new school year rather easily I must say. My daughter's transition to middle school went off

without a hitch. When I asked how her first day went, her response was "It was awesome!" My son's first day went equally as well, with him proclaiming that he thinks he can get straight A's this first quarter. (From his lips to God's ears!)
Like my children, my first days of the school year have also gone well. Multiple speaking engagements and lots of buzz around my upcoming
"Mom to Mompreneur Now!" tele-summit have confirmed that my transition to The Purposeful Parent is the right step for me.
For many, September marks a new beginning. In many cases, more so than New Year's Day. Perhaps it brings us back to those first days of school when anything was possible. Blank notebooks, a fresh box of crayons, a new lunchbox seemed to shout out "I'm ready for anything!" What about you? What's fueling your engines as the new school year starts?
Embracing something new can be a scary endeavor. What if it doesn't work out? What if people don't like it? What if...fill in the blank.
But what if it DOES work out? What if people DO like it? It's easy to get caught up in the negative "what if's". If you want to succeed, you have to be willing to take a risk, to give it a go. If you fail, you fail. You are still alive and guess what? You get a do-over.
If you notice, I did not use the word "try" above. I said "give it a go" and "do-over". Did you know that when the brain hears the word "try", it automatically associates that word with failure. Yikes!
So - the age-old phrase of "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again" is actually translated in your brain as "If at first you don't succeed, fail, fail again." Double yikes!
Words are so powerful. Did you know that we listen more to our own voice than to that of other people? Let's start choosing the right words, not only for ourselves, but for our children.
This new school year, pay attention to YOUR voice and see what happens after your 'first quarter.'
As promised in my debut Parenting for Purpose Newsletter last month, there's lots of exciting events happening and programs for moms and mompreneurs. I hope you'll check them out and share with your friends.
In gratitude for YOU!
