MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
|
I'd like to use this month's message to say "thank you" to the many people who took time away from their jobs, at their own expense, and joined the NCISS effort in Washington, DC, meeting with our nation's leaders. On September 12th members representing 17 states and the District of Columbia met at the Westin National Harbor for the "Welcome Reception and Lobbying 101" presented by Jimmie Mesis and Larry Sabbath. Tuesday, September 13th began with early appointments on Capitol Hill and continued throughout the day with a midday break at the Capitol Hill Club for lunch and a testimonial presentation given by Dr. Clem Pellet.
On behalf of The National Council of Investigation and Security Services, I'd like to send a sincere thank you to the following. Your service and commitment to the NCISS mission is gratefully appreciated...

Hit The Hill Luncheon
Keynote Speaker
Dr. Clem Pellet shared his story about using the services of private investigators Sheila Klopper, Pat Shaughnessy and Patrick Cote, who used a social security number to locate his grandfather's killer, a fugitive from justice. In addition, Dr. Pellet and his wife Cynde spent the entire day lobbying representatives of Washington, Arizona, Montana and California on behalf of private investigators across the country.
Thank you Dr. and Ms. Pellett!

HIT THE HILL 2011
By David B. Mac Dougall
SCALI Legal & Legislative Chairman
On September 13, 2011, following some last minute instructions from NCISS Legislative Advocate Larry Sabbath, four members of the South Carolina Association of Legal Investigators (SCALI) Hit the Hill to meet with our Congressmen.

Vicki Childs, Tracy Hoshell, Joe Dorton and I brought the concerns of SCALI to the eight-member South Carolina Congressional Delegation. Our three day junket began on Monday when Joe Dorton drove us to Washington, D.C. That evening we participated in a two-hour briefing on what to expect and the specifics on the important issues. Tuesday morning began with an early breakfast and more training. After a rush hour cab ride to the Capitol, we had two congressional office meetings before Vicki, Tracy and Joe attended the NCISS luncheon with more organizational info provided. I was fortunate to have been invited to lunch by Congressman Joe Wilson. The afternoon was spent crisscrossing Capitol Hill in order to visit the entire South Carolina congressional delegation. Some meetings involved the four of us; some required us to split up into two teams... ...Click here for more photos and additional details from David Mac Dougall and the SCALI delegation... |

State Associations Advisory Board
|
The State Associations Advisory Board met during the lunch hour of "Hit the Hill" on Tuesday, September 13th, and what a productive meeting it was. Over 45 investigators and security professionals from 15 different state associations were represented, discussing topics ranging from the legality of window tinting in different states to unlicensed activity.
The theme of the State Associations Advisory Board is "driven by ideas...moving the profession forward." I am excited to announce that a full day of SAAB is planned for the next "Hit the Hill" Campaign in Washington, DC. State association leaders will be invited to attend this special event, which will include seminars on many
different topics, including membership recruitment and maintenance, running a successful conference, how to interview and hire a lobbyist, and much, much more.
This event is in the planning stages; however, we would encourage all who plan on attending to join us at "Hit the Hill" and then attend the SAAB event the following day.
Later this month, we are also planning the first State Associations Advisory Board conference call. Look for details on the SAAB list-serve soon.
Thanks,
Gary S. Brummond, LPI
