Several days ago, the Wall Street Journal published an exquisite piece written by the witty political pundit, Peggy Noonan. The piece explored the origin of the

Auld Lang Syne and what it means to us. Embarrassingly, though I had thought otherwise, I suddenly realized I didn't even know the lyrics to the famous New Year's anthem:

 

"Should auld acquaintance be forgot and never brought to mind? Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and days of auld lang syne?" 

 

Noonan points out that the Scottish poem asks and answers the question,"Should those we knew and loved be forgotten and never thought of? Should old times past be forgotten?" Noonan say no, the song says none should be forgotten. I suspect we could all agree to drink to that. Less heady though, is another, more sober . . . read more

Louis Gurvich

Louis Gurvich was born in New Orleans and has resided his entire life in the New Orleans Saints home town. He graduated high school from the Marion Military Institute and received his BA in Political Science from Tulane University. He was awarded his JD from Loyola Law school, attended Tulane's School of Business Administration, the University of New Orleans School of Business Administration and Tulane Graduate School of Law. 

Lou's first job following college was as an assistant district attorney in Orlean's Parish District Attorney's office where he found himself trying cases at 3:00 am.  Realizing he wasn't suited for a 24-7 schedule, he opened his own law firm, and then subsequently became president of Gulf Claims Services. NCISS member Theresa Balfe of Vooresville, NY will be sworn in as president of the Associated Licensed Detectives of New York State (ALDONYS) on Wednesday, February 3, 2011 at the Installation of officers and membership meeting. Cocktails will begin at 5:30 PM with dinner and the installation of officers to follow at 6:00 PM. The event will be held at Jack's Oyster House, 42 State Street, Albany, NY. Theresa Balfe, the 2010 ALDONYS Investigator of the Year, served as regional board member for upstate New York before being elected secretary and then vice president of investigations.
