 Myth Busters
Facelift Without Surgery
From "Liquid Face Lifts" to "Lunchtime Facelifts" it seems as if everyone's doing it. But what exactly is it that they're doing? Marketing of standard procedures such as Botox and Fillers (Collagen, Restylane, etc) as a "Liquid Face Lift" promises results "more natural" than a surgical facelift. Certainly the results from injected substances are less dramatic than surgical procedures, work in different areas, and can be very good as long as you are not expecting the same results as a good surgical facelift. "Feather", "Silk", "Lunchtime", and "Contour" lifts are all types of thread lifts where multiple stiff, barbed threads are placed under the skin to pull the skin upward. Although reasonable results can be obtained, it takes multiple threads (5-6 per side) at around $500 per thread. Unfortunately, typical results only last from a few months to a few years, Complications include visible lines where the threads are too close to the skin. The "Lifestyle Lift" is a type of "mini" face lift which can result in widened scars and disappointing results. As with all cosmetic procedures, if it sounds too good to be true, it just might be!
