WWAD - Gangnam Style

Greetings!

Good morning! We know many of you consider Walk with a Doc your portal to modern culture (no we don't!) and, believe me, that is something we do not take lightly. Today, we either introduce or hopefully broaden your knowledge Gangnam Style (What does this have to do with medicine?). According to Wikipedia, Gangnam Style is a Korean language colloquialism that refers to a luxurious lifestyle associated with the Gangnam district,  an affluent area of Seoul,  where people are trendy, hip and exude a certain supposed "class". My understanding is that It's kind of the Beverly Hills of Korea.
Please keep in mind, while this video is running continuously in the WWAD World HQ Lobby - it is not acceptable for a normal workplace. It is inappropriate and likely offensive to many and yes I am a cardiologist. Without further adieu, I give to you PSY, one crazy dude, who has got it going ON.

Fish oil capsules v. Flax seed oil capsules

Q: What is the best way to get my Omega - 3's? Fish or Flax

A: I try and steer my patients away from 'capsules'. The study last week is one more possible nail in the coffin of supplements. The studies show that the healthier communities are getting their omega-3's from diet. That being said...the "effective" omega-3's are EPA and DHA (found in fish oil); flax seed oil has ALA (alpha-linolenic acid). ALA itself is not that helpful, it becomes most effective when it's broken down into EPA. So, for more helpful omega 3's - fish oil is the answer. Sorry, I bet you were rooting for Flax seed.

WWAD TNOTM
WWAD Tree Nut of the Month is...
The Pistachio!!!

With great pride we collectively declare that the Pistachio has been named WWAD Tree Nut Of The Month (October 2012). For the last 8 years the fall months have typically been dominated by the old standbys (pecans, almonds, walnuts, etc).
This leap of faith by the WWAD Tree Nut Selection Committee (TNSC) was in short - brave and wrought with emotion. Feelings were hurt and jobs (3) were vacated.  If I may humbly offer up in the midst of the storm. it is exactly this intensity and this desire that separates WWAD from other physician led walking programs (what other programs?). While I do not carry the distinction of serving on the TNSC, I am honored to walk the halls among you.
