 Greetings!
Good morning! Hope you've had a beautiful week (full of activity!).
So, I owe all of you an apology for last week's newsletter. Let me first give a little backdrop to my irrational thinking.
Sunday is April 1st and I love practical jokes. I also have a very deep respect for the savvy/intelligence of our newsletter readers - they'll sniff it out a mile away kind of thing.
So, I figured let's do it a week early (now realizing that's not playing by April Fool's rules (by definition)); let's pick something that is plausible (Kathryn going to Harvard Med), and something that will shower Kathryn with attention (oh boy, did it). My only defense (admittedly weak) is that the highlighted blue letters spell out "a-p-r-i-l fool-s", I "asked our editors" to deliver on the eve of 3/31/12, and the picture is not actually Kathryn. Far too subtle.
Out of 5,000 people - as far as I'm aware, only one reader figured it out (Jill Wallace, MCHS) and about 250 of you sent very heartfelt texts, calls, and emails to our Executive Director, Kathryn. Amazingly, and in true Kathryn fashion, she responded to all of them, laughing it off and sharing how important the walk, and all of our participants, are to her.
To Kathryn, and to all those that were distraught, and to those that took their valuable time to craft emails detailing their sorrow - I'm sorry.
To close, I thought I would share one of Kathryn's favorite responses, from our beautiful, very successful teammate up over the border (June gave me permission).
Hi Kathryn
I just read the Walk with a Doc newsletter, and want to congratulate you on your move forward! Good news for you, not-so-good news for the rest of us who have felt a part of your network. Especially not-good-news for Dr. David. Personally, I think you've spoiled him too much and he'll be lost without you. As a going away present, I would suggest you get him some self--help books so he can learn some coping skills. For his aptitude level, I would suggest: "How to Get Along Without Your Mother" or "How to Grow Up and Act Like an Adult". These books are geared towards Grade 5 level, so I'm sure he'll understand most of what he reads. Also, he'll need to be trained on creating Walk with a Doc newsletters, so you'll absolutely need to buy him "Publish the Newsletter Yourself, Dummy". Just a helpful suggestion.
I will miss you, and if ever you ever get into this part of the country, bring a jacket. No, no, I mean you are very welcome and I will make sure you are taken care of.
Lots of good luck coming your way,
June Bjorn Administrative Coordinator Northern Hearts
