| Walk with a Doc Newsletter |
|
Greetings! Good morning! Hope you've been able to enjoy the incredible weather this week. Did you fill out a bracket for the tournament? We're having a lot of fun at the office this week. It's nothing were proud of, but for WWAD associates (we call ourselves 'partners'), the NCAA Men's Tournament is a national holiday. It's laid out that, if you wish to be at HQ, you are welcome to stay, but you will be paid regardless. Around the office, these have been informally labeled 'HDL Days' (most of us sleep in, walk/workout pre-game then gather to share some HDL increasing beverages with our partners). Anyway, 213 of us that spend our days at HQ turned in a bracket. 47% have OSU taking the crown (we're Columbus based), 34% UK, 9% UNC, and the remaining 10% is divided. Best participation came from (in order): Shipping, Landscaping, Flight Crew, our new Translation division, Newsletter Screening Committee, and HR. If you haven't filled out your bracket yet, it's not too late (we won't tell). Since we're sharing so much today, we decided to post this week's internal WWAD goals (also posted in the restrooms & WWAD Zip-Line Platform).

'150'
No surprise, right? Honestly, all of our partners walk/workout for 150 minutes (or a lot more) a week. We put this up anyway as kind of a 'Free Space'. It's always nice to start with a checkmark.

Fruits & Veggies
5 a day - so delicious. We strategically placed 25 tropical and mainland fruit bowls throughout our complex. In addition, the WWAD Commissary offers 4 unique veggie options (Staff favorite: Sesame Broccolini).

Read a good book
We find great inspiration in books. That's why we have Reading 'Hour' from 9-10:30 every M/W/F morning. This week we're reading 'Scratch Beginnings'. Doug Ulman ( @livestrongceo) mentioned this as one of the five most important books he's ever read. With what Doug has done with Lance's organization, he is a big hero of ours. He's right - important book. Click on the pic to get to the site.

Graphic Tobacco Ads There's been controversy surrounding this and there's going to be a lot more. As you listen to those that come to tobacco's defense, please remember this: The tobacco industry spends more than $1 million/HOUR to entice kids, keep smokers hooked & glamorize their deadly products. Oh yeah...Before I leave, I'd like to share one more thing I absolutely love about Walk with a Doc.
Our physician leaders.
As we all know, at times not unfairly, doctors have had the ability to garner bad press (hand in Pharma's pocket, not enough time with patients, etc.)
I don't have a better way to say it, the doctors that have come to us wanting to start a walk are special people. To a person, they care for others on a level I aspire to. Does this mean that you have to lead a walk to be a special physician? Of course not.
What this does mean is that whether you attend a walk with Dr. Wendy in Columbus, Dr. Andrew in Denver, Dr. Rick in Cleveland, and fortunately I could go on forever - trust that you are going to be around someone that cares deeply about you. Someone who sincerely wants you to be happy and healthy.
(I slowly break into playing Kumbaya on my guitar, simultaneously softly snapping fingers over my head - both hands - but you can't see or hear that, this being a newsletter).
See you Saturday,
David 614-714-0407 Thank you. For the walk times, locations, and physicians this weekend - please click here.
