| Walk with a Doc Newsletter |
 Greetings!
Good morning! We hope this finds you well and excited for 2012. Our entire walk staff is certainly fired up, especially after our 7th Annual Retreat culminating yesterday. Mr. Buffet, fought through a chest cold to offer up some great financial tips that will help guide us through the year. While Kathryn and Bono hit it off, I couldn't understand a word he said. Big heart though. Anyway, we have a few brief things to share this morning. Thanks for being with us.

WWAD's 2012 Guide to Snow ShovelingDon't shovel: everyone, especially men and woman over the age of 45, who is not physically active or has a history of a heart condition let some else do the shoveling. If you have been doing your 150 minutes or more of exercise a week and you choose to shovel: - Snow shoveling is a physical exercise and we strongly recommend you warm up and stretch your muscles prior to starting shoveling, as you would do with any other activity in order to prevent injuries.
- Remember, each full shovel of snow can weigh some 20 pounds (9kg).
- Use the proper shoveling technique. Be sure not to overload the shovel. If you have to lift, bend your knees and lift with your legs (not your back!) and avoid twisting or throwing snow over your shoulder.
- Take breaks. Every 15 minutes or so, stand up straight, walk around, and drink water to avoid dehydration and overheating.
- Listen to your body. Pay attention to your body's signals, such as pains, shortness of breath, or chest discomfort. If you feel uncomfortable please call a doctor/ physician immediately.

Daytime Columbus with Gail Hogan This Monday, January 9th, (at 11:00 a.m.) one of our walk heroes, John Volpi, will be joining another one of our heroes, Gail Hogan, on her successful NBC TV show - Daytime Columbus (http://bit.ly/d16Cyy). John will be discussing how he has dropped 40 lbs, come off a couple of medicines, and is living a better life through easy exercise. If you want to keep score at home next week, he was offered the following by me: $5 every time he says 'walking'; each "Walk with a Doc" gets him $20, and if he pulls off... "You know Gail, my first time out <pause as if unable to continue on> I asked David - Is this heaven? <single tear and take another second to gather yourself>. You know what he said Gail? <single tear>He said no Mr. Volpi, It's Walk with a Doc."
That's a complimentary 3 day, 2 night stay (transportation included) at the Inn at Honey Run (http://www.innathoneyrun.com/) including $50 gift certificate to their world-class restaurant.
