Welcome to Walk with a Doc
Greetings!
Good morning friend! Hope your week has been going great. Sorry to be the one to tell you - it's almost over. Pretty soon you'll have to be dealing with the weekend. Lots of sleep, football, terrific food, great weather, good friends, and outdoor activities like biking, hiking, spelunking, etc. Hope you can handle that? We don't usually rehash the weekend walks, but come on - how cool was Sunday! Dr. Gee addressing us and leading our massive group (helicopter pilot estimated ~220-230) around Mirror Lake and The Oval would have been enough. Handshakes, pictures, and autographs would have been enough. Sharing in our successful defeat of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, hypertension, etc. would have been enough. A BIG thank you to President Gee and The Ohio State University for an unforgettable afternoon. Thank you for your interest in Walk with a Doc. Please check ( www.walkwithadoc.org) for all the specifics on this weekend's (Oct.2nd) and next weekend's (Oct.9th) walks. I am sparing you all from a newsletter next week (you are beautiful, kind and much deserved of a respite). However, for now please read on - we have plenty to share. |

Exercise Increases MoJo 104%!
This study out of the University of Glouchester (Journal of Integrative
Biochemical Nuclear Metabolites, September 2010) blew me away. I'm sure you've seen it
- but it's worth readdressing.
In this study, there were 1,072 subjects (538 men, 534 women) split into two groups.
The first group was instructed to eat a normal 2,000 (avocado-free) calorie diet and watch the 'Judge shows' throughout the day for a total of 6 weeks with no specific advice on exercise (avocados have been proven to increase MoJo).
The second group was directed to consume the exact same diet, only the 'Judge shows' were replaced with 30 minutes on the elliptical, 30 minutes on the treadmill, and rest.
Results have sent shock-waves through the exercise physiology community. MoJo levels in the second group skyrocketed to 104% of the first group (p<0.05).
"We're speechless. Serum levels of MoJo consistently surpassing 200 mg/dl have not previously been scientifically documented (urine MoJo peaked at 207 mg/dl). What this does, is once again put on display the ridiculous power of exercise on MoJo. We extrapolate this to mean that those who exercise greater than 150 minutes will statistically have more fun and excitement in their lives than those who do not," shared the study's Primary Investigator Hagrid O'Blarney.

New Sponsor - Cottonelle
Thank you to our newest sponsor, Cottonelle. We had been hoping for, and quite honestly counting on a financial commitment, but we are still excited by their generous in-kind donation to Just Walk.
Kathryn and I were surprised/overwhelmed to have 200 cases (4000 rolls) of Double-Ply Big Rolls with "Extraordinary Durability for Optimum Performance" delivered this week. Despite our beautiful, large office, space has quickly become an issue (all our sites already have an adequate supply of bathroom tissue). This challenging turn of events led to an extremely productive Emergency Board Meeting this past Tuesday (9/28/10). Many great ideas were put forward and I am quite proud of our Board of Directors.
Effective this upcoming week (10/4/10), the Walk with a Doc Commissary Menu has been overhauled. All foods served by our experienced staff will have to be previously acknowledged by the USDA as having "Disconcertingly High-Fiber Content" and labeled as such. For example, Monday's menu is Cuban Black Bean and Artichoke Soup, Whole Wheat Cooked Spaghetti with Lentils, Chocolate Oat Bran Muffins (please see recipe on our site www.walkwithadoc.org), with a delectable Prune Sorbet as an additional thank you for your patience as we switch things up. |
