Walk with a Doc saves 17,984 Trees!
Oak trees
How pray tell, was Walk with a Doc able to be so green?

Simple calculations my friend.

There have been 179,840 newsletters distributed since our 1st Constant Contact email on 10/20/08 - all electronically (that's key).

I then estimate that the pulp of a 40 foot oak tree produces about 10 pieces of paper (good friends with lots of paper science majors at Miami University).

That creates the headline that we are so proud of.

I can't wait to see what else we do today that's green.  That's how green I feel!

Greetings!

Good morning!  We have a great day in front of us. We seriously do, I'm not kidding.

We would like to welcome the 432 new subscribers to the newsletter this week.  Thank you so much for your interest in our program (as a small token, please see coupon below).

We also thank those that have generously continued to be a large part of our Walk with a Doc Journey.  Your importance cannot be overstated.

Speaking of walking, as soon as I finish up my Starbucks and change out of these Aladdin flannel pajamas I'm going for a walk (not to be arrogant, but they are very rare - only 50 Adult Mediums distributed in North America with both Abu wearing the Golden Crown and Footsies).

I'm walking 45 minutes this morning because it's easy, it's fun, and I'm going to put myself in a good mood for the rest of the day.  Walking is like free happiness.

Please read on, we have a lot to share this morning.

More Data Indicate that Statins Neither Cause or Prevent Cancer
StatinsI found this interesting report in by ACC News Digest this week.  *Statins are the common drugs (Lipitor, Zocor, Crestor, Pravachol, etc.) used to lower cholesterol.

MedPage Today (8/25, Smith) reported, "In what may be the final word on the issue, an international team of researchers report that statins neither cause nor prevent cancer." After researchers in the international Cholesterol Treatment Trialists' Collaboration reviewed "25 randomized controlled trials" that included "more than 166,000 participants," they eventually discovered that "there were no differences between treatment and control arms in terms of the incidence of cancer or the rate of cancer mortality." The data, according to one expert, "meet the 'gold standard' of randomized trials and 'trump the many observational analyses that have come out on both sides of the equation.'"

In a related report, walking continues to drastically reduce breast, colon, lung, stomach, and many other types of cancer.

Walk with a Doc - Cleveland Clinic
Our Executive DirectorToday is Dr. Kratche's birthday.  If you just tuned in, you may ask, who is Dr. Rick Kratche?  Dr. Kratche is an exceptional physician and leader within the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

About a year ago, Dr. Mike Roizen and David Pauer (You, The Owner's Manual) thought Rick would be the perfect physician to spearhead the Cleveland Clinic's walk.  They were right.

At the time, Dr. Rick had several major league projects underway, yet he wanted to take this on.  The Clinic has taken last fall's pilot walk in Solon and steadily expanded to what will soon be 9 weekly WWAD's at various locations throughout the city of Cleveland.

Dr. Kratche, Carrie Wolfe, David Pauer, and a cast of hundreds have stepped up to the plate...in a big way.  Thank you for your heroic efforts.
This Saturday - In Columbus Town
Party Bus This Saturday - Franklin Park Conservatory, Park of Roses, and Westerville are occurring as scheduled.  Please see www.walkwithadoc.org for all specific times and locations.

The Highbanks (HIBX) walk will not be meeting this Saturday.  In its place, the HIBX crew is meeting at 7:30 a.m. next to the regular HIBX pavilion. From there, a convoy will head down to Huntington Park - bus departing at 7:50 a.m. (same bus we mentioned in last week's newsletter - see picture).  If you choose to meet the wolfpack downtown, we will be on the corner of Nationwide & Neil - in our shirts.

If you have reserved a seat on the bus, it's still there for you.  If you have not made any reservations, please contact Tina at (maryehendricks@aol.com).  She holds all the Bus Power.  The AHA walk starts at 9:00 am.  The bus will pick WWAD'ers up at 11:30 from the same spot it leaves us at.

Keanu Reeves is driving the bus - if that helps with your decision.

You are the fuel that makes Walk with a Doc go. Thank you from the bottom of our heart.  We love what you are accomplishing.
Have a fantastic weekend!

Walk with a Doc
Save 25%
Off ALL Trinkets

If you see something you like that's a Trinket, please print the newsletter and cut out this coupon and present it to the cashier.

Which store? Doesn't matter - that's the beauty of it!

Just approach the cashier and say, "I would like this item.  I believe it to be a valuable Trinket, and I would like to apply this coupon for 25% off."  100% of the time their response will be, "Where did you get this coupon?" Your response? "Dr. Kratche - he's a great guy, isn't he?"

*Just a quick FYI.  Last week, I personally tried to apply this to a couch I've been eyeing at Target.  They, either do not believe the couch to be a Trinket, or have not yet met Dr. Kratche (great guy). Surprisingly, they would not accept this coupon.  Just saying...you might want to try another Meijer instead, but you didn't hear that from me...
