Greetings!
Happy Thursday to you! Wow, this week has flown! We experienced a WWAD record this week (967 lbs. lost)! That's a guess. Ironically, the record this eclipsed was our last post-Poop Muffin week (742 lbs) - just guessing back then as well. Why was I guessing? Because we don't keep track. Why don't we keep track? Because, whether you lose or not, you are working miracles for your mind, body, and soul. Mind, body, and soul?! Did he send me the Yoga with a Doc newsletter by accident this week?! Nope - mind, body, and soul. It makes you feel better than you've ever felt before. Come on - trust me - all the cool kids are doing it. If interested, the muffin recipe is up on our site ( www.walkwithadoc.org). They are delicious and they are relatively healthy. Please read on - lots of stuff! |
This Saturday- May 1st - MayDay! MayDay!
| There is a projected low of 64 degrees this Saturday! Party on Wayne, Party on Garth! I know you are coming to either get (a) your free pedometer, (b) coffee, (c) blood pressure check, (d) revenge on me for the poop muffin, (e) fruit, (f) granola bars, or some other reason - but - you should come for yourself. Lights down for a second. (Following 2 paragraphs read to the tune of James Taylor's - Shower The People). They say that for every hour you exercise, you add 2 hours onto your life. That means that when you get your 150 minutes (which, btw, is some of the most enjoyable time of the day), you are adding 6 hours a week! Well, guess what. They let us exercise for 300 minutes/week (even further reduction in heart attack, stroke, cancer, etc.) - that is 12 extra hours/week. You are making your weeks 7 and a HALF days long! Is this just the Diet Mountain Dew talking? No this is real baby! Did the doctor just call me baby? Some people worry that these extra hours will be "nursing home time" a million years from now. Couldn't be further from the truth. These extra months/years you are adding - they are quality. 100% quality. This exercise is what keeps you as the main attraction. Remember, exercise prevents most all the bad things. We see in it the cardiology office, every single day, almost every single patient - that is part of the reason we started the walk. It is the answer - it's that easy - it's that simple. Lights up. Music - changed to Lady GaGa (pick your song), but it has to be Lady GaGa. Sorry, I don't make the rules, just follow them. This Saturday, Walk with a Doc - Highbanks will take place at 8:30 am, Big Meadows Picnic Area of Highbanks Metro Park. Please visit our website for further information ( www.walkwithadoc.org) on all the other Walk with a Doc locations and times. |
Next Saturday-Come Out and Play!-May 8th
| Come Out and Play! |
We are very proud to team up with Nationwide Children's Hospital, the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Franklin Park Conservatory, and many other great organizations/people that I will get in trouble for not mentioning. This event will be kicking off our pediatric walks around the city.
If you have a child, met one, or maybe even used to be one yourself - this is something that you (and they) will love! It's all going down at Franklin Park on the Saturday of Mother's Day weekend. It starts at 9:00 a.m. on the 8th. If you are even considering, please go to http://tinyurl.com/26t7pyq to register in advance. It's free. Should take less than minute. I would love to see you there. I really would - to protect me. I get nervous around pediatricians - I'm always afraid they want to give me a shot!

Keep walking, keep swimming, keep biking, keep whatevering. You can do it at a moderate pace that is comfortable for you. You are getting a lot more benefit that you think.

Free Pedometers!
| | Thanks to our sponsor, Anthem, we are able to provide you with a free pedometer at the Highbanks WWAD this Saturday!
These will be made rapidly available to our programs around the country.
For those new to pedometers, they function as your own personal trainer. A very, very tiny personal trainer that may not have drank enough milk as a child?
If you cannot be there this Saturday, no worries, they will be at future walks. There is no need to reserve one.
This is a huge gift. Thank you Anthem!
And no, that is not a French Fry container behind the pedometer!...it's a Chicken Nugget container...kidding, pedometer box.
