Greetings!

Good morning!  Hope you are as good as this morning is beautiful. In like a lion and out like a lamb, they weren't kidding were they?!

When my family was touring Edison's Florida home, the guide shared that Mr. Edison did not believe in exercise!  After Krissy administered smelling salts and lifted me off the grass, I grabbed for my TI Prognosis Calculator (given to us in 3rd year of med school).

Some quick computations told me Edison would have lived to 126 and 4 months if he had exercised! How disappointing! When we got back I USB'd into the computer and found that shocking data could be extrapolated.

Because exercise stimulates our brain and our mood (like you would not believe), it suggested that the genius of Edison would have been even more extraordinary, significantly altering the course of American (and World) history.

The invention of the phonograph: now April 1875 (occurred in 1877)
The invention of the incandescent light bulb: now March, 1876 (1879)
Motion pictures: September, 1889 (1896)
The Inception of the NFL:  1920 (1920 - not a sports fan)
Gambling legalized in Las Vegas: 1912 (1931)
Raquel Welch's birth: September, 1926 (1940)
Internet: May, 1947 (Gore - 1969)
Sharks with lasers on their backs: June, 1964 (20??)
He** freezes over: January, 1982 (????)

All of this "lost" progress is certainly hard to stomach.  But if exercise would have done this for Edison, think of what it can do for you!  Inspiring to say the least.

Please read on.

Today
Jefferson logoToday our program is being recognized as a finalist for the 2010 Jefferson Awards.

Everyone, either receiving or writing this newsletter, is in this together and equally.

I think we are all humbled and grateful that they are acknowledging us (thank you Mina Wilson).  Let's use this as an opportunity to take a quick step back and look at what is going on with our program.

We are making progress by completing actions.  We are hitting our 150 minutes a week.  We are asking a friend to walk.  We are asking our doctor to check out the program.  In doing so, we are successfully breaking down the physician/patient barrier.

All of us in the Walk with a Doc family now find ourselves in an extremely unique position.  We are a relatively small group that is in a very real position of altering health care, throughout the country, in an extremely positive and a dramatic way.

Let's follow this through and end up with something that we can all be proud of.

Spring has sprung.  You are ready.  Let's get on it!

See you Saturday,

David
