Welcome to Walk with a Doc
Greetings!
Good morning! Hoping you are warm and safe. I love the way snow
brightens everything up. It's like light therapy - I bet our melatonin
levels are through the roof. That being said, if you are in Columbus please be very careful this Thursday morning, the roads are extremely slick.
Leave it to the very classy
Columbus Dispatch to bypass the Helga/Just Walk controversy and focus
on all the positive components of heart health (http://tinyurl.com/ya9x5pj). Thank you to all the people who led to this well-written, informative article.
We have plenty to share in the newsletter today. Let
me say this. If you've been meaning to check out a walk but
haven't gotten around to it - This Saturday is your day. You'll see
why below.

The Chocolate Strawberry and its History
We are going to be giving away plenty of these beauties this Saturday morning. Very similar to the $4.50 ones you will see when you walk past the chocolate shop's window. Why are we giving them away? This is why.
Dark chocolate has a large amount of antioxidants that protect your heart against aging - these flavonoids can reduce your blood pressure and your LDL (bad) cholesterol.
The strawberry is also loaded with antioxidants, anti-cancer, and anti-cardiovascular disease properties.
Together, they are like The Captain and Tennille - Pure Magic.
I don't wish to come across as an elitist, but being a physician I'm privy to many secret books, even on history, that others do not have access to. Please let me explain to you The Origin of the Chocolate Strawberry.
In the late 1700's there was a very famous Babylonian Princess named Pocahantas. She was absolutely beautiful. One day, while playing hopscotch with her friendly Persian neighbors, she stumbled upon a bramble of luscious red fruit. She sought her mother, the Queen, who collected many of these berries into a 'straw' basket. Later that evening, the Queen and Pocahantas proudly returned to the castle to present them to their husband/father, King Henry the VIII. The King was mesmerized by these delicious morsels and commissioned the town artist, Michelangelo to paint large tapestries of these 'straw'-berries that would be displayed throughout the entire Kingdom. Being such ancient times, Michelangelo had no access to red paint - dark brown was as close as he could come. In a desperate attempt to fool the king, he melted Special Dark Hershey Cocoa Beans (the chocolate bar as we know it had not been invented yet) to cover these 'straw'-berries. Fortunately, the fruit had tasted even more delicious than King Henry had remembered - and Michelangelo's life was spared. This Saturday will mark the 300th Anniversary of that historic day - please come celebrate the occasion with Walk with a Doc.

morning. We have so much to share. The first 40 people that arrive
this Saturday morning get Free Passes to The Arnold Active Living

waters, coffee, bars, and chocolate strawberries.
We will be
joined by special guests from the American College of Cardiology

We will be making a major announcement
on a 2010 guest host new to Walk with a Doc . 7-time Tour de France

most impressive man I've ever met."
We are also honored to be joined by OSU Football Great and founder of Buck-Icon (www.buckicon.com), Mr. James Cotton.
If that wasn't enough, we will have live stretching by the ever-popular exercise physiologist/nurse Miss Tasha Sherer.
Good times to be had by all. Hope you can join us. It's like free exercise.
