Greetings!
Good morning. There is nothing like Michigan Week. Nothing. Hope you are enjoying it as much as we are. We would like to thank COSI and Ohio State ( http://www.cosi.org/visitors/exhibits/life/) for being such wonderful hosts last week. What a set-up! Outside of a recurring nightmare that I'm being made into a Western omelet, the Bod Pod was a great experience for all. The Cleveland Clinic is on their 7th walk this weekend and will be doing their first Main Campus Walk with a Doc on December 2nd. Congratulations to our North Coast colleagues on their wonderful efforts.

Brangelina Coming to WWAD?!
|
|
Thank you to our WWAD Volunteer Host Nancy Jones!
It looks like Brad and Angelina are looking to incorporate Walk with a Doc in their adopted city of New Orleans!
They are asking for, what Brad is calling an "organic view" of Columbus and have inquired into staying at a volunteer's house.
Some of you may remember that in last week's newsletter we had asked for any willing hosts.
Nancy Jones of Hilliard, OH was the only one to step forward.
Good news/Bad news Nancy. Your guests have asked to stay for 3-4 days, BUT - for your sacrifice we will be providing you with 2 very expensive bottles of red wine, a $200 voucher to Ocean Club, and a gift certificate for an Entire House cleaning once your guests depart.
Nancy - THANK YOU!

Ten Free Things To Do in Columbus and Central Ohio
We slid in at the #2 position. We were narrowly clipped by Cleaning out the Garage (#1), but we put a major hurt on "Scooping" the Gutters (#3). Hey 'Garage' - you better watch your back. In 2010 - we are bringing our "A" game!
In reality, there are hundreds of great free activities in Columbus ( www.experiencecolumbus.com) - we are honored to be mentioned alongside them.

Vitamin D Shows Heart Benefits in Study
|
|
(in NY Times this week)
By RONI CARYN RABIN
Vitamin D lowered the risk of heart disease in a new study.
Got vitamin D? It may protect you from heart disease.
Vitamin D, of milk fame, is known for helping with calcium
absorption and for building strong bones, which is why it's routinely
added to milk. But there is more and more evidence that vitamin D is a critical player
in numerous other aspects of metabolism. A new study suggests many
Americans aren't getting anywhere nearly enough of the vitamin, and it
may be affecting their heart health.
In the study, researchers looked at tens of thousands of healthy
adults 50 and older whose vitamin D levels had been measured during
routine checkups. A majority, they found, were deficient in the
vitamin. About two-thirds had less vitamin D in their bloodstreams than
the authors considered healthy, and many were extremely deficient.
Less than two years later, the researchers found, those who had
extremely low levels of the vitamin were almost twice as likely to have
died or suffered a stroke than those with adequate amounts. They also
had more coronary artery disease and were twice as likely to have
developed heart failure.
The findings, which are being presented at an American Heart
Association conference in Orlando, don't prove that lack of vitamin D
causes heart disease; they only suggest a link between the two. But
cardiologists are starting to pay increasing attention because of what
they're learning about vitamin D's roles in regulating blood pressure,
inflammation and glucose control - all critical body processes in
cardiovascular health.

Go get 'em Buckeyes!.
As many of us narrow our focus towards the greatest rivalry in sports, let us remember one of the great stories of OSU past. Near the end of the 1968 game, already up 42-14, Ohio State scored another touchdown. Coach Hayes then called for a two point conversion, which they converted. When assistant coach Lou Holtz asked why he did it, Woody said; "Because they won't let me go for three."
