Just Walk
Walk with a Doc Proudly Teams with Labs-in-Life at COSI
Bod Pod Edition
November 2009
Greetings!

Good morning! First: Veterans, thank you. Your service and sacrifice allow us to live free and pursue our dreams.  You are all heroes to me.

Second, the odds of someone taking me seriously about sitting in an egg (look to your right) are quite low, but this is a real offer----promise.

Dr. Jackie Buell, the Head Sports Dietician at The Ohio State University, has addressed our crowds for the last couple of years.  She is a leader in Labs-in-Life at COSI and made this Saturday's Bod Pod visit happen.  Thank you Jackie!

As you read this, you may ask yourself (David Byrne) why would I want to put myself into a bathing suit and hop into an egg on Saturday morning?

Good question.  Actually, a great question.

Why is body composition important? Our bodies are made up of protein, fat, water, carbohydrate, and various vitamins and minerals. If we have too much fat, we're at increased risk for high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and diabetes. That increases our risk for heart disease and stroke.

Knowledge is Power! Besides, your Bod Pod experience will make a great story for the Thanksgiving table.

COSI --- This Saturday!

COSI
We encourage everyone to join us at our regularly scheduled time, 8:30 --- only this week we are at COSI (333 W. Broad Street, Columbus).

This is not the restaurant with really good bread (nice try, though); this is the Center of Science and Industry.

Dr. Jackie will be speaking at 8:30 for 10-15 minutes (everyone loves this woman), but if you want your turn in the egg, you will be given a number when you arrive --- starting at 7:00.  Staff will be present. The test takes about 10 minutes.  The staff has generously offered to accommodate participants until 11:00.
The math champions reading this have already figured out that 25 will be able to get tested for free.

We can walk inside or outside --- however the spirit moves you.   The weather is supposed to be beautiful, again. Rolling around the grounds in the egg will not be permitted under any circumstances (for that matter, no attempts at setting sail on the Santa Maria, either).

Parking:  If you park in a city lot, it will likely cost $5.  There is some parking on the street, so bring a few quarters just in case. We may get lucky...but just in case.

Clothes for the Bod Pod: It is necessary to wear the equivalent of tight compression shorts and, for the ladies, a sports bra. A bathing suit is fine as long as there is not a lot of extra skirt on it.  This one is too easy --- please insert your own jokes here.

Hitch!
Coach
Congratulations to the Unofficial NHL Hockey Coach of Walk with a Doc, the Columbus Blue Jackets' Ken Hitchcock - a man who has won Lord Stanley's Cup.  Hitch coached his 1,000th NHL Game last evening at Nationwide.  This is a remarkable testament to his talent, commitment, and love for the game.

As you may remember, Coach honored us this summer by announcing at the Highbanks WWAD that he was selected as a Coach of Canada's 2010 Olympic Hockey Team.  Then again, what does Canada know about hockey?

We are very proud of you Coach. Incredible accomplishments.
Volunteers Needed to Host Site Visitors
Shelter for our FriendsWe are humbled to have been fielding a steadily increasing number of requests for visits to our site from out-of-state Walk with a Doc leaders/interested parties.

If any of our Columbus friends are interested in hosting our incoming friends, please let us know by responding to this email. We do not have any current trips or dates scheduled --- just requests.

If there happens to be breakfast involved in this hosting deal, please make sure I'm aware --- so I can test any delicious blueberry pancakes, making sure they are safe for our out-of-town guests.  We are talking post-Bod Pod --- follow?
For the select few who read the entire newsletter (even the fine print), we haven't really relocated to northern Pakistan --- Walk with a Doc is just a big fan of Greg Mortenson's Three Cups of Tea

See you Saturday.
