Walk with a Doc Newsletter
Michigan Week |
|
|
|
| Greetings!
The American Heart Association meetings are over and I've just returned from Colorado. The conference was actually in New Orleans. I was fortunate enough to be on a ranch following the studies on the internet.
The cardiologists have given us plenty of great stuff to discuss at our next walk, this Sunday (11.23.08), 9:00 am at the Polaris Mall Food Court.
Despite what we felt were productive talks with OSU A.D. Gene Smith, negotiations have stalled, and it certainly appears the Buckeyes will be proceeding to play the team from up north this Saturday. We want to offer our full support and will happily move to the following day.
Please read on as we have exciting news to share.

Thank You

Walking Away from Cancer Walking cures a lot more than the heart....

Colon cancer is affected by walking: Risk for the disease could drop by about 35% with 30 to 60 minutes a day of physical activity, scientists say. Walking might help with treatment too. In one study of 600 women, those who increased their activity levels after diagnosis lowered their risk of dying by one-half.
Breast cancer is also on the list. In the Women's Health Initiative study, women who did the equivalent of two hours a week of brisk walking dropped their risk of breast cancer by 18%. In the Nurses Health Study, breast cancer patients who walked from three to five hours a week were half as likely to die from the disease as those who didn't walk.

Pilgrim's Progress 4 Miler
Friendly reminder that the Luke Billing's Foundation is putting on an cool event next Tuesday night and Thursday morning.
There is no better way to start your Thanksgiving (and excuse to get out of the house) than exercising, giving to a great cause, and getting a good deal of schwag in return.

As many of us narrow our focus towards the greatest rivalry in sports, let us remember one of the great stories of OSU past. Near the end of the 1968 game, already up 42-14, Ohio State scored another touchdown. Coach Hayes then called for a two point conversion, which they converted. When assistant coach Lou Holtz asked why he did it, Woody said; "Because they won't let me go for three."

Until we receive our bailout, or "hell freezes over", which a forthcoming congressional aide told me could possibly happen first, we will be offering 75% off admission to Walk with a Doc. This drops your entry fee to, once again, zero dollars.
