Junior Achievement of San Diego has special reason to celebrate our 60th Anniversary: we achieved our annual student and financial goals! The weak economy has reinforced the critical need for financial education to our employers, teachers, administrators and concerned parents.

As a senior at Bloomfield High School near Newark, N.J., Wendy Gillespie's JA Company program team assembled and sold car visor kits to hold tissues and sunglasses.  She was their CFO and went on to graduate from Montclair State University with a BA in Spanish and education, and a post-graduate minor in business administration.

"I can barely remember what I had for breakfast this morning, but I remember all of the details about the JA Company program I participated in more than 40 years ago," Gillespie said.  "The impact and power of this experiential program still amazes me today, and inspires me to give back and pay it forward to today's students."  ...READ MORE.

East County Chamber Promotes JA
The June issue of the East County Chamber of Commerce e-newsletter featured a call to all business owners to participate in our East County JA Days June 2 and June 8.

Thanks to the Chamber for a great mention. The two JA Days, where volunteers gathered to teach five weeks of lessons in one day, were a big hit and we were able to teach 46 classes about financial literacy in K-5th grades.

Local Company Team Leaves for Minnesota

The Hilltop High students had a special meeting with Chula Vista Mayor, Cheryl Cox last week to talk about how business is good for the community and the value of education.

They also attended the Alumni Coffee on July 8th and met with JA Alumni who participated in similar programs, 10, 20 and even 30 years ago.  What a great way for kids to see the long-term value of their efforts!
