San Diego Metropolitan Magazine Helps JA Celebrate 60 Alumni
June 2010 Metropolitan Magazine
Since 1950, JA has helped San Diego students improve their financial literacy.  As part of our 60th Anniversary Celebration, we honored 60 alumni of JA programs at the University Club atop Symphony Towers at the "60 For Success" Reception.

Of the hundreds of alumni who shared their story with us, 60 were selected who embody JA's values of entrepreneurship, financial responsibility, leadership and community involvement. Those alumni were profiled in the June 2010 issue of the San Diego Metropolitan Magazine.

We hope to hear from 1,000 alumni by the end of our 60th anniversary year, and continue to build a positive business and mentoring network with this group. Tell us your JA story now!

Thank you to the University Club for donating their venue and to Nuffer, Smith Tucker for their support.

Article3Thank You from the Heart

Fifth Grade students at Doyle Elementary School were so excited by their JA Day that they drew pictures and sent thank you notes to their volunteers.

JA Day is when a group of volunteers, sometimes from the same company or organization, go into one school on the same day and do the complete 5 or 6-week program in just a half day.

Thank you for volunteering!
Thank you Mrs. Wilson!

Article3Deloitte's IMPACT on JA

IMPACT Day is a celebration that symbolizes Deloitte's year-round commitment to service. Each June, tens of thousands of Deloitte personnel from across the United States spend IMPACT Day participating in more than 800 projects nationwide.
Deloitte's Impact Day

On June 11th, San Diego staffers started the day at King/Chavez Primary Academy in Logan Heights to paint murals, public areas and refresh lines on playground courts. While some were outside painting, others were in classrooms teaching JA's curriculum to the 400+ students at the school.

After a day of hard work in the community, Deloitte then hosted an innovative Wii Bowling Tournament to raise $4,900 in JA's Bowl-A-Thon, doubling last year's effort!

That should have been enough, but Deloitte also hosted Junior Achievement and other local not-for-profits for a ...READ MORE

Article4Wrapping up FY2010:
On to FY2011!

As we complete Fiscal Year 2010 at the end of June, I want to thank all of the great people that make JA meaningful for so many San Diego students.

Thank you to our terrific JA Board of Directors for their exceptional guidance and creativity and special thanks to our donors for their passion and commitment to financial literacy.  And our volunteers make all of JA possible: we served over 40,000 students this year because of the 1,500 in-classroom volunteers and the 3,000 BizTown volunteers who shared their time, experience and excitement with the kids.

Our staff deserves a hand as well.  It's been an especially challenging year but we are ready to move to our next higher plateau in the new year!

Looking forward to working with you all again for a strong FY2011.

Warmest Wishes,

Local Company Team Travelogue to Minnesota

The Company Program team from San Diego's Hilltop High is preparing for the national competition taking place in Minneapolis from July 18th-21st.

While in Minneapolis, the team will meet students from all over the U.S. and Canada, and interact with top executives from firms such as Best Buy and FedEx.

There are several components to the competition: a trade fair, a stage presentation and a company interview - and these students are certainly up to the challenge. Hilltop's product is a cinch bag with a water bottle and a towel inside for easy outings.

The winners of the National Competition will earn scholarships and will have a chance to win a new HP laptop. Go Hilltop!

The Hilltop team has been raising money to compete and so far they have received $1200 in sponsorships from JA Worldwide, Hilltop Dollars for Scholars and a private donor. There are still opportunities to support the team; contact Elyssa Jeter at 619-906-4906 to learn more about how you can help the Hilltop team get to Minneapolis!

We will keep you posted about their summer travels to Nationals.
