Businesses Remain Open During the Church Street Improvement Project
The Church Street improvement project is moving along, work along the south side of Church street is expected to be completed Aug 31. The City of Evanston has contracted improvements on Church Street from Ridge Avenue to Chicago Avenue. The scope of work includes streetscape and street resurfacing work in this section of Church Street from Ridge Avenue to Chicago Avenue. The streetscape will be extended on Orrington Avenue from Church Street south to mid- block on the east side. For more information, click here.

Evanston Burger War 2012 - Voting ends September 16
Everyone loves burgers, but summertime seems to be peak burger weather, so what's your favorite yum on a bun? The Evanston Chamber of Commerce is giving you a chance to vote for your favorite burger until September 16.

Burgers will be judged on three categories: taste, creativity and presentation. Many of the participating restaurants have created their own special 'burger' for the contest which will end September 16. Winners will be announced at the Third Annual "Mash-Up", the annual celebration of business, academia and the arts. Diners can vote on line

Now We're Cookin' - Food Business 101
Now We're Cookin' is pleased to announce the next session of its innovative Food Business 101 training program for aspiring food entrepreneurs. Funded in part by a Grant from the City of Evanston, this 6 week program focuses specifically on the challenges of innovating and launching a business in the food sector. Combining classroom sessions with online coursework, volume production training and access to food entrepreneurs and resources, this comprehensive program gives business owners the jump-start they need to launch a successful enterprise.

Architectural Tour of Downtown Evanston - September 8
Chicago Architecture Foundation docents, all residents of Evanston, will lead the final downtown Evanston tours of the year this week. Highlights are various building styles, the tension between preservation and development, a changing small city and its challenges, and the background history of the city. To take the tour meet on the steps of the Evanston Public Library, 1703 Orrington Ave. on Saturday, Sept. 8 at 11am.
McGaw YMCA Family Fun Day at Centennial Park- September 8
Become a family of rock stars! The School of Rock is coming to teach and play at our annual Family Fun Day. Join the McGaw YMCA on Sept 8 at Centennial Park in Evanston (on the Lakefront between Church and University Pl.) for games, music, snacks, crafts for the entire family starting at 2:00 PM. In the event of rain, Family Fun Day will be held at the McGaw YMCA. Stay for the night! We're launching our Adventure Guides season with the annual Lakefront Campout - pitch a tent and spend the night meeting other families and telling stories around the fire.

Official hours of the Downtown Evanston Farmers Market are 7:30am to 1pm behind the Hilton Garden Inn. Shoppers can enjoy fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, cheese, milk, eggs, flavored oils, pasta, and bakery items, as well as flowers and plants. Free parking is available in the adjacent city parking garage at 1800 Maple Ave.
