Businesses Remain Open During the Church Street Improvement Project 
The Church Street improvement project is moving along, work along the south side of Church street is expected to be completed Aug 31. The City of Evanston has contracted improvements on Church Street from Ridge Avenue to Chicago Avenue. The scope of work includes streetscape and street resurfacing work in this section of Church Street from Ridge Avenue to Chicago Avenue. The streetscape will be extended on Orrington Avenue from Church Street south to mid- block on the east side. For more information, click here.

Evanston Burger War 2012
Everyone loves burgers, but summertime seems to be peak burger weather, so what's your favorite yum on a bun? The Evanston Chamber of Commerce is giving you a chance to vote for your favorite beginning August 15.

Burgers will be judged on three categories: taste, creativity and presentation. Many of the participating restaurants have created their own special 'burger' for the contest which will end September 16. Winners will be announced at the Third Annual "Mash-Up", the annual celebration of business, academia and the arts. Diners can vote on line

Art and Wine Night at Creative Coworking - August 17, 5-9pm
 Escape the summer heat and spend your Friday night with Creative Coworking! This month, Creative Coworking's Art & Wine Night will feature new exhibits from local artists Ron Rutkowski and Bridgette Schnider and ongoing exhibits featuring various artwork. Drinks and appetizers will be served.

Funded in part by a Grant from the City of Evanston, this 6 week program focuses specifically on the challenges of innovating and launching a business in the food sector. Combining classroom sessions with online coursework, volume production training and access to food entrepreneurs and resources, this comprehensive program gives business owners the jump-start they need to launch a successful enterprise.

American Craft Exposition - August 24 - 26  One of the nation's premiere craft expositions, the American Craft Expo, will take place at the Henry Crown Sports Pavilion (2379 N. Sheridan Rd.) at Northwestern University August 24 - 26. The exposition features only nationally known artisans displaying unique fiber arts, sculptures and jewelry. Dr. Tess Coleman and her daughter Anna have the typical combative mother/daughter relationship. They don't see eye to eye on anything until one magical night a fortune cookie's curse causes them to switch bodies. They must find a way to switch back before Tess's wedding and also find some respect for each other along the way. Family Film Night will be Wednesday, August 22 at 7 pm in the Children's Room at the Main Library. Gallery Night 2012 - August 23, 5:30pm Young Professionals of Evanston presents Gallery Night 2012! Join us for a trolley tour of local art galleries. Stops include Creative Coworking, the Block Museum, Evanston Art Center and Evanston Print & Paper. The trolley will depart from Creative Coworking at 922 Davis Street at 6:15pm. Tickets are $10 for members and $20 for non-members. Downtown Farmers Market - Every Saturday Through November  Official hours of the Downtown Evanston Farmers Market are 7:30am to 1pm behind the Hilton Garden Inn. Shoppers can enjoy fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, cheese, milk, eggs, flavored oils, pasta, and bakery items, as well as flowers and plants. Free parking is available in the adjacent city parking garage at 1800 Maple Ave.
Taste of Armenia - August 26 at St. James Armenian Church - 816 Clark St. The Taste of Armenia serves up charcoal-grilled kebabs and homemade specialties! Few can resist the delicious pastries and steaming cups of coffee. The festival includes a full day of cultural offerings drawn from across the country, and local Armenian bands play music for line dancing all afternoon!
