Evanston Mini Maker Faire: A Showcase for do-it-yourself technology of every shape & kind!
Tickets are now on sale for the Evanston Mini Maker Faire happening August 4 - 5, the faire will be going on between Maple Avenue and Oak Street and Emerson Street and University Plaza!
The Evanston Mini Maker Faire will be a celebration of technology and the making of things; you can have your photo taken by a robot photographer, learn how to brew beer at home and watch 30 children's electric cars compete for first place. The two-day fair showcases the work of local inventors and entrepreneurs and includes lessons and demonstrations related to applied science, technology, engineering and math. More than 250 vendors and presenters are signed up for the fair, which takes place at the Hilton Garden Inn, 1818 Maple Ave.
Highlights include beer brewing lectures from the Evanston Homebrew Club, a live performance by the experimental electronic music group Roth Mobot and several competitions for electric race cars built for children, led by former U.S. senator Carol Mosely Braun. The show runs from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4., and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5. Tickets can be purchased here.

Downtown Street Improvement Program 
The Church Street improvement project started August 1 and will last eleven weeks, the City of Evanston will be contracting improvements on Church Street from Ridge Avenue to Chicago Avenue. The scope of work includes streetscape and street resurfacing work in this section of Church Street from Ridge Avenue to Chicago Avenue. The streetscape will be extended on Orrington Avenue from Church Street south to mid- block on the east side. For more information, click here.

Evanston Burger War 2012
Everyone loves burgers, but summertime seems to be peak burger weather, so what's your favorite yum on a bun? The Evanston Chamber of Commerce is giving you a chance to vote for your favorite
beginning August 15. A number of Evanston restaurants have already 'enlisted' with more to come...
Burgers will be judged on three categories: taste, creativity-ethnic focus, toppings, unusual ingredients (hence, chocolate) and presentation. Burger lovers are encouraged to suggest their favorite restaurant, be it Asian, Mexican or Indian..get in on the fun. Restaurants can create their own special 'burger' for the contest which will end September 16. Winners will be announced at the Third Annual "Mash-Up", the annual celebration of business, academia and the arts. Diners can vote on line at the Chamber site, www.evchamber.com or use their mobile devices. Voters are eligible for several restaurant prizes.
Downtown Farmers Market - Every Saturday Through November
Official hours of the Downtown Evanston Farmers Market are 7:30am to 1pm behind the Hilton Garden Inn. Shoppers can enjoy fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, cheese, milk, eggs, flavored oils, pasta, and bakery items, as well as flowers and plants. Free parking is available in the adjacent city parking garage at 1800 Maple Ave.
Taste of Armenia - August 26 at St. James Armenian Church - 816 Clark St.
The Taste of Armenia serves up charcoal-grilled kebabs and homemade specialties! Few can resist the delicious pastries and steaming cups of coffee. The festival includes a full day of cultural offerings drawn from across the country, and local Armenian bands play music for line dancing all afternoon! Come out and enjoy a festival with something for people of all ages!
