It's Thursday Let's Dance!

Now in its twelfth year in 2011, It's Thursday, Let's Dance! will be heating up downtown Evanston on six consecutive Thursday nights: July 21, July 28, August 4, August 11 & August 18.

Each week, enjoy dancing to a live band and instruction with a professional dance teacher. Join us at the conveniently located 909 Davis St. Plaza, the intersection of Maple Avenue and Church Street, at the Davis St. Metra stop. Look for the dance party between American Apparel and Chef's Station's patio.

July 21th - Shirley King , playing sweet home Chicago blues in the family tradition of B.B. King.

Calling all bargain hunters!

 

Close to 200 Evanston merchants in both Downtown Evanston and the Chicago/Dempster district will offer deals on summer inventory, featuring the ideal mix of independent shops and your favorite national chain stores. Expect to find deals on apparel, shoes, one-of-a-kind accessories and decorative arts, including the best in specialty designed, hand-crafted goods. Resale shoppers and antique & vintage hunters will find a variety of shops to explore. Read more>

The Super Sidewalk Sale will be held from Friday, July 22 through Sunday, July 24. Sale hours will vary with the merchants' schedules. 

Evanston Arts Center's Found Art Sale

The EAC will be selling found art items as part of the Evanston Sidewalk Sale Days at Fountain Square, located at 1601 Sherman in Downtown Evanston .  A preview party on Thursday July 21st will give buyers a first look at a wide variety of unique items ranging from inexpensive pieces to highly valuable pieces.

    

The party is from 6 - 9 pm and refreshments will be served.  Tickets cost $35 per person or $50 for two, and are available for purchase by phone at 847.475.5300 or online at evanstonartcenter.org.  All proceeds will benefit the EAC's exhibition, education, and outreach programs. Read more>

Evanston Recycling Fair July 23rd

The City of Evanston will be hosting a Recycling Fair on Saturday, July 23rd from 9am to 12pm at the Morton Civic Center Parking Lot, 2100 Ridge Ave.

At the fair, Evanston residents can recycle a variety of items, secure recycling education materials, sign-up for a waste audits and get a close look at some of the Streets and Sanitation heavy equipment.

Residents will have the opportunity to recycle electronics, documents, hangers, plastic bags, sharps, paper products, batteries, CFL bulbs, and ink cartridges.

The first 250 people to show up will have the opportunity to obtain a repurposed refuse cart that can be used for composting. Read more >

Join the Evanston History Center for their Annual Ice Cream Social Saturday, July 23, from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. Frozen Custard will be graciously provided by Andy's Frozen Custard .  

 

There will be tours of the Dawes House, games for kids and face painting from 1-4pm. The Ridgeville Band will play from 1-2pm and Kevin Kelly's Magic Show will be from 2-3pm.

Evanston Public Library to Host Book Sale

books.jpg The Library Book Sale Volunteers are now holding monthly sales in the third floor Book Sale room. These sales directly benefit the Main Library collection.

Upcoming sales are scheduled for:


* Tuesday, July 26th from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
* Saturday, July 30th from 10 to 3 p.m.

 

*On Saturday, July 30th, Science Fiction books will be prominently featured in conjunction with the Library's science fiction event.

The inventory will be replenished between sales so there will be new surprises to find each time you visit!

Pete Miller's (1557 Sherman Ave., Evanston) will present a five course dinner with Goose Island Vintage Ale beer pairings on Wednesday, July 27 starting at 6PM. Cost is $45 per person not including tax and gratuity.

With awards throughout the world, Chicago brewery Goose Island has spent the last six years introducing new members of its line of Vintage Ales; artisanal brews that reflect the beer making style of Belgium and France with the idea that these fine beers should be paired with great food. Representatives from Goose Island will be on hand to discuss what makes the beers so special why they are competitors of wine for a great dining enhancer

Evanston 150 In 2013, Evanston will celebrate its rich history over the 150 years since it was incorporated. This milestone presents our community with a unique opportunity to not only look back at the past, but to imagine the future.

 

Evanston150 is a community-wide initiative that engages all of us in imagining our future, resulting in 10 visionary ideas to celebrate Evanston's 150th anniversary in 2013.

 

Evanston150 invites everyone who lives, works or studies in Evanston to begin the celebration of this anniversary by creating a new history. What are 10 big ideas for Evanston's future? What are 10 visionary ideas to make it a better place to live, work, play? We are looking for at least 2,013 ideas having broad support and long lasting impact, to move Evanston forward into the future
