Come one, come all and help us turn the public library into a beehive of brainstorming!

Drop-in visioning sessions will be held throughout the building to generate Big Ideas for Evanston's future.  Music, youth activities and prizes too!  The Book Sale volunteers will also have a sale spotlighting materials of local interest.

Aging Well Conference May 13 at North Shore Hotel

The Aging Well Conference for older adults, their families, professionals, and other caregivers will include topics such as fall prevention, grandparents raising children, advance directives, complementary medicine, and aging in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community.

 

Friday, May 13, 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., North Shore Retirement Hotel, 1611 Chicago Ave.

 

The keynote speaker will be Charles Johnson, Director of the Illinois Department on Aging. Registration is free, but space is limited. Click here for more information and online registration.

May 26, as the dining room will become the stage. Enjoy local stand up comedians competing for the funniest comedic roast of France, the French and everything French! Patrons will determine the winner.

Great Live Swing Music at the Orrington Hotel Supporting a Great Cause!

Swing dancers"Dance like the Stars" as you are accompanied by an 18 piece jazz band, Friday, May 20, 2011 from 6:30-10pm at the Hilton Orrington Grand Ballroom!   

Brush up or learn new steps with FREE swing dance lessons from 6:45-7:25 pm. Live music begins at 7:30 featuring the Old Men's Jazz Band. These 18 talented musicians love celebrating the big band swing traditions by playing a mix of arrangements from the best hits of the 40's to more recent numbers with a "swing attitude".

 

Whether you dance or not, listening to great music and mingling with spirited dancers makes for a great evening. The event includes an exciting auction, a raffle for a 32G iPad 2 (licensed by the city of Evanston), passed appetizers and a cash bar.
