
Last weekend... Great North Shore Lobster Festival Davis Street Fishmarket and Pete Miller's Seafood & Prime Steak are celebrating the end of summer with the marvelously low price, $19.95 for a Pound and a Quarter Live Whole Maine Lobster Dinner. Dinners include side dishes. The festival will last through September 19.
The lobsters are flown in daily from Maine and each restaurant will be preparing an array of delicious lobster preparations in addition to the whole lobster deal. Reservations are encouraged and available by calling the restaurant or visiting the websites.

Leave Your Car at Home for Car Free Day Wednesday, September 22
For the 2010 Chicagoland Car-Free Day, the
Active Transportation Alliance is partnering with the City of Evanston, CTA,
Metra, Pace, RTA and communities around the region to shine a spotlight on ways
of getting around without driving. The residents of Evanston are invited to
take the Chicagoland Car-Free Day Pledge,
no matter if they already walk, bike or take public transit. By taking the
pledge, residents are eligible to receive special discounts from businesses like
Sports Authority, Argo Tea and I-GO Car Sharing.In
addition to taking the pledge, Evanston will be holding a car-free promotional
event at the 909 Davis Building from 6-9 a.m. and a rally at 8 a.m. on
Chicagoland Car-Free Day. The rally will be full of surprises including
appearances and speeches by local officials, free food and drinks, free bike
repairs, an extra bike parking corral, bike raffle and more!Visit

Northwestern University and the City of Evanston are teaming up to "Paint Evanston Purple," when the Wildcats take on the Chippewas of Central Michigan and host Evanston Day at Ryan Field (1501 Central Ave.) Game time TBD.Come show your support, help fill Ryan Field to capacity, and enjoy some great football (Evanston residents receive $17 discounted tickets!) To gear up for the big game, a Pep Rally has been planned for Thursday, September 23 at 6 pm at the Rotary International World Headquarters (1560 Sherman Ave). Cheerleaders, coaches, players and the Northwestern marching band will kick off the Evanston Day celebration!

Rachmaninov's Second Symphony will kick off the Chicago Philharmonic's 21st season on Sunday October 10 at 7 p.m. as part of the evening's Rachmaninov Russian Feast. New conducting sensation Robert Trevino will lead the orchestra as it returns to Pick-Staiger Hall on Northwestern University's Campus in Evanston after a successful 20th anniversary season. Trevino, a rising star in the conducting arena,recently was a prize winner in the Sir Georg Solti Emerging Conductor Award for 2010. The award, presented by the Solti Foundation, was introduced in 2010 to give American conductors major recognition in the formative years of their career. Award-winning pianist, Julia Siciliano will perform on of Rachmaninov's most popular pieces, Second Piano Concerto.
