Which sewing machine to buy?
Thinking of getting a sewing machine for yourself, daughter or granddaughter? This can be a great gift for the new or developing sewer! The options, however, can be overwhelming.
At the So You... Studio, we have Janome, Singer, Husqvarna Viking, and Brother. There are different features on all, but the one we recommend is the Janome 525S. It is considered the best in its price range. It has a strong motor, and will last a lifetime. Brother is also good but more expensive - ranging about $399 for the comparable model to the Janome 525S. I am able to sell to you the Janome at $350.00 - which is lower than you can buy it in most places! I do not recommend the Singer - unless you know about machines and are able to maintain it and fix it when necessary.
The Huqvarna Viking models are nice, but the company is undergoing changes and I do not know which models will be discontinued.
It is important to consider ease of use when purchasing the machine. You want to be able to turn it on and go. The Janome is easy to use, strong and the manuel very easy to read.
