Helpful Hints For Finding Your Purpose
"I will make out of you a great people, and you shall be a blessings, I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you. And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed." Genesis 12:2-3
So often someone says to me, "If only I could find my purpose in life ..." There is nothing sadder than watching persons trying to find joy and/or peace without knowing God's purpose for their lives.
When we try to chart our own courses- creating our own purposes and destinies - we always get stuck or sidetracked. Many of us find ourselves always starting over again. We need to realize that unless God blesses it, it won't work. The psalmists says,"That unless God builds the house the laborer labors in vain" (Psalm 127:1).
If you want you want to find your purpose, you need to begin by asking yourself three questions.
First, how has God blessed me? In other words, what are your gifts and talents? Since you are blessed to be a blessing, then God always provides you with the tools before God ever asks/requires you to do anything. God wants you to bless others with what God has already blessed you with.
Second, what am I doing when I feel the most joy?
Are you reading, teaching, counting, singing, playing, cleaning, caring or praying - what gives you the most joy? Look for ways to do more of it, and then you will be on the right track. One warning though - make sure you don't confuse spiritual (inner) joy with worldly(outer)contentment.
Finally, how can you use this gift - that brings you joy - in a way that blesses someone else. Remember that God wants to bless others through you. When people say that they don't know what they are supposed to do, I ask, "Do you know whom you are supposed to bless?" If you know whom God wants you to bless, pretty soon, you will also know how you are supposed to bless them.
Determine in your heart to be a blessing and nothing will be able to stop you. God says that if anyone tries to stop you, then God will curse him or her. If they help you, then God will bless them.
God wants you to be"the lender and not the borrower. the head and not the tail." If you use your gifts, your talents, your position, your resources to help others, God will continually bless you. Look for ways to be a blessing and you will be blessed. God guarantees it!
