Message From South Florida FREPA Director
Dear Florida Renewable Energy Supporters,
We hope that everyone is having a wonderful fall.  We wanted to thank all of you for your continued support in growing the renewable energy industry here in South Florida.  Our membership and involvement has grown significantly over the summer and we are excited to continue with this growth.
Our next chapter meeting will be on Thursday, October 29 from 6pm-8pm at the offices of RS Environmental Consulting.  We would like to thank RS Environmental Consultants for hosting us.  This meeting will focus on the environmental factors that we must all be aware of and discuss when trying to increase sustainable development within our state.  We will touch on topics such as wetlands, wildlife, avian, Florida endangered species, cultural impacts, landscape etc.
For members that are unable to make it to the meeting minutes of the meeting will be available, upon request.  Please send all requests to FREPA_SFlorida@floridaenergyproducers.com
We would also like to thank K&L Gates for hosting the following meeting in their offices.  This meeting will focus on the legal aspects that surround a renewable energy project in Florida such as landowner leases and the permitting process. This meeting will take place Thursday, December 3rd, more info to come later.
As always our events are entirely free for our members.  You're help will be more than appreciated.
If you are interested in attending the October meeting please RSVP @ FREPA_SFlorida@floridaenergyproducers.com
As always thank you for being a part of this community and for your support.
Best Regards,
Sébastien Studer

BIOMASS IN FLORIDA:
BG&E DIVISION TO GROW POWER FOR FLORIDA POWER PLANT

By: Anna Austion
Georgia-based Biomass Gas & Electric plans to grow 50 percent of the feedstock that will be required to power its soon-to-be-constructed biomass facility, Northwest Florida Renewable Energy Center in Port St. Joe, Fla., at its subsidiary AgTech Renewable Fuels LLC.
The company will begin work on the 45-megawatt power plant in the first quarter of 2010, and is currently working to raise capital to build a laboratory and nursery to grow arundo and miscanthus seed plantlets. AgTech Renewable was formed almost a year ago, upon licensing the technology rights from the University of South Carolina.

SOLAR IN FLORIDA:
FPL TO BRING 25MW FLORIDA DeSOTO POWER PLANT
FPL says it will be the largest solar photovoltaic plant in North America, overtaking the Nellis solar facility in Nevada.
Built in less than a year, the DeSoto Next Generation Solar Energy Center uses more than 90,500 photovoltaic panels.
Florida's largest utility estimates that over 30 years the plant will prevent emission of more than 575,000 tons of greenhouse gases. According to the US Environmental Protection Agency this is equivalent to removing more than 4,500 cars from the road every year for the entire project life.

WIND IN FLORIDA:
EVE SAMPLES: WHAT BLOWS IN THE WIND MIGHT BRING PROFIT
A small company from Miami wants to do what the state's largest utility has not: build electricity-producing windmills in Florida. And it is seriously eying central Martin County for one of its first wind farms.
Within a month, Miami-based Hurricane Wind plans to build a temporary, 197-foot-tall test tower on Caulkins Citrus Co.'s property between Florida's Turnpike and Indiantown, north of the St. Lucie Canal.
If it turns out the spot is blustery enough, it may build full-fledged, 300-foot-tall wind turbines there.
