Introducing Gi BodyGuard

Gi BodyGuard Home Screen

Finally, there is a simple, fast and private app for tracking your digestive health

Trying to remember very specific details about what you ate, what medications you took, the severity and location of pain you experienced, the consistency of your stool, and if you had gas weeks or even months ago is tough - really tough.   However, not providing your physician with this information can hamper his or her ability to provide you with the best possible care.

The Canadian Digestive Health Foundation has the solution -- Gi BodyGuard.  This new, free, iPhone /iPad app can help you take control of your digestive health with confidence and optimism.

Gi BodyGuard has symptom, stool, pain, food and medication trackers, a Gastrointestinal Health History form, and medication / appointment reminders. Tacking this information and sharing it with your physician can improve your quality of life.  "The more information provided to a physician before a patient enters the office, the better armed we are to treat that patient more effectively and efficiently," states Dr. Richard Fedorak, President of the CDHF.

Gi BodyGuard was developed with an unrestricted grant from Katz Group Canada which operates Rexall™,

Rexall Pharma Plus™, Guardian™ and I.D.A.™ retail pharmacies, and The Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy™.

Gi BodyGuard is now available for FREE!  Download Gi BodyGuard from iTunes today!

Battling the Bugs

Understanding and protecting yourself against C. difficile

In the industrialized world, Clostridium difficile (C. difficile) is a common bacterium that occurs naturally in some people. The bacterium can grow and release toxins that can damage the large bowel and cause diarrhea.  Those at risk of developing a C. difficile infection include:

  • the elderly,
  • people treated for cancer with chemotherapy,
  • those taking anti-secretory drugs, and
  • people taking antibiotics.

The CDHF has developed a fact sheet on C. difficile to help you better understand the infection. It includes information on signs and symptoms, tests and diagnosis, risk factors, strategies for preventing the infection and important links to the Public Health Agency of Canada and provincial health sites for more information.
