Each month we're getting closer to our $1 million fundraising goal. With less than 120 days until we RISE, here's where we're at NOW. |
| So many people to share the adventure with...
Many people will want to support your RISE efforts -- you just need to tell them about your adventure as ask for their support.
You can start by creating a list of people you know. Include family, friends, neighbours, team mates, teachers, fellow students and co-workers. Don't forget the people and businesses you support regularly like doctors, dentist, therapists, real estate agents, home builders, painters, auto mechanics.... Then, as the saying goes, just do it! Ask these people for their support -- by email, in person, with a letter.
Remember, virtually everyone has been affected by or knows someone with a digestive disorder. Asking someone to support you offers them an opportunity to no only support you but protect the good health of themselves and those they care about as well. |
| RISE Dog Sledding
Historically, sled dogs enabled explorers to travel the frozen wastelands of two continents that were otherwise virtually inaccessible. These brave soles played a vital role in bringing civilization to the snowbound areas of the world.
Each member of the RISE team will experience the thrill of driving a 2 person sled powered by 4 - 6 dogs in the heart of the Rockies. Like the early explorers, we will be establishing a new path -- this time toward digestive health!

McMaster University aims to raise $100,000!
McMaster University is embracing the quest o improve the digestive health of Canadians with arms wide open. This enthusiastic group has eight people ready for RISE -- Conquer the Great Divide. Together they hope to raise $100,000 for the CDHF. As individuals who work in intestinal disease, McMaster team members see, on a daily basis, how Canadians struggle with digestive disease. Each day researchers work to find better treatments and cures. "The CDHF is relevant to all of us," says Dr. David Armstrong, Associate Professor, Farncombe Family Digestive Health Research Institute, McMaster University, Hamilton Health Science and member of the RISE steering committee at the university. "As members of the McMaster team, we are all involved in gastroenterology, from bench to hearthside, and RISE - Conquer the Great Divide provides us with an exciting opportunity to show how our community can pull together in support of our patients with digestive diseases." McMaster staff, students and faculty are working together to increase the awareness and understanding of digestive diseases. Some members of the McMaster RISE team will compete to be the first to ski over the Continental Divide, run their dog sled over the finish line, snowshoe through the forest or reach the summit of Ha Ling Mountain. Others will put their heart, spirit and determination to work in order to simply complete each challenging event. "I am fortunate to work with amazing clinicians, researchers, nurses, technicians and staff members who make a difference in the lives of those who suffer with digestive diseases every day," says Tammy Villeneuve. "Their dedication and the courage of their patients inspires me. They are the reasons why I will conquer the great divide and why I am raising money for RISE!" The McMaster RISE team is David Armstrong, Julia Cahenzli, Markus Geuking, Jean-Eric Ghia, Jennifer Jury, Kathy McCoy, Amber Park, and Tammy Villeneuve. If you would like to support these individuals or the team as a whole, please visit, McMaster Team Fundraising Page. Look for our next issue of adventureBYTES when we will be profile another member of the CDHF RISE team.
