We learned in physics class that Energy is present in everything - in the air, in our desks and in the people around us. Good leaders know how to get more out of their people by applying the laws of physics to the task of leadership.

Bruce D Schneider has developed an energetic self perception chart that denotes levels of energy and their impact on leadership, engagement and productivity in the workplace.  His premise is that if you raise the average resonating level of energy in yourself and your organization, you will be able to achieve greater success.

Reflection Questions:

  • Take a minute and reflect on the energy in your work environment.  How would you describe the energy?  What adjectives come to mind?  Is it light, angry, intense, happy or peaceful?
  • What type of energy is present in the people you lead?  Are they eager to take responsibility, arrogant, apathetic or compassionate?
  • How can you raise your own leadership energy level so that you can impact your team and organization?
