A Sugar-coated History? Japanese Seattle as seen through a sweet Map, an interactive website. 

Julia Harrison will introduce her newly launched website, audio tour, and Sweet Map which presents selected confectionery makers and their businesses in King County. Her lecture will examine how Sweet Map addresses the complex history and dynamic presence of Seattle's Japanese-American community.  Digital website presentation and discussion.

Learn about Japantown's favorite sweet shop from the past, Sagamiya and the current array of artisans in Seattle making Japanese sweets today.

A visiting ceramic artist from the University of Tokyo is a resident artist with the Tacoma Community College.   Sekiguchi has been working with several wood fire ceramic artists around the Northwest and showcases his work at Kobo this month.

Ocean in a Cup      NCECA

Opening reception: Thursday, March 29, 6 - 8 PM
A NCECA exhibition of contemporary sake ware highlighting contemporary ceramic artists particularly active in that field. Both Japanese and American  potters are featured, representing a wide range of approaches from traditional to decidedly contemporary.  Curated by John Dix, Japan.

A NCECA exhibition on ceramics exploring traditional and non-traditional approaches to function, from students and faculty in the University of Montana Ceramics Program.  "Julia Galloway, Beth Lo, Trey Hill (faculty) Nathan Tonning, Randi O'Brien, Sarahjess Hurt, Sarah Tancred, Suzanne Lussier, Dean Foster.

March 30 - April 21, 2012

Barb Campbell is a studio potter who lives in Western Oregon.
She has been hand building with clay for over 30 years. Her style and forms have evolved over several years of exploration.   Barb will be presenting a series of clay stones that have been made by paddling clay over river stones. Once leather hard the stones are drawn on.  This installation invites the viewer to consider all the abundant beauty she observes in her garden.
