Paths 01

Ana Karina Luna was born and raised in Maceió, Brazil, where she graduated with a B.A. in Architecture and Urban Planning. She moved to Seattle in 1999 and acquired an A.A.A. in Production Illustration. Karina works as an Interactive Art Director at a small web design firm. She also owns Miss Cline Press, a letterpress art studio in Central District, where she lives with her husband, Mr. Cline, who came with the presses.

Paths 10

Karina's inspiration derives partly from her experience as an Architect, as well as a more primitive life in a developing country. She's interested in croqui-style lines that show the natural "flaws" of the trembling hand and which seems to mirror the imperfection of life. She's also inspired by all things wabi-sabi, the Japanese monk/poet Ryokan, and the Indian sage Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj.

Paths is an unmethodical study of lines and the patterns they accidentally produce. It loosely tells the story of the heart and the mind in our journey as humans. This series was produced by cutting directly onto the clean unsketched linoleum block and then hand-pulling the print onto Japanese Mulberry rice paper using water-base and linseed oil inks.
