Sculpture and works on paper by Gloria Bornstein
The queens explore the Rorschach test, an inkblot given meaning by the
viewer more than by the subject, and are open to multiple
interpretations.
For me, the polished stainless steel elements and wood head forms draw
from the past and imagine the future, deepening my understanding of
how we look backward towards the future.
The artworks developed from a voice in one of my dreams, a Rorschach
itself, reminding me of how history can be reconstituted in personal
and public memory. I am pleased to install the artworks at Kobo in
Japantown because it's the site of the historic Higo Variety Store
where Japantown's history is reconstituted in the present.
