HiiH - say it "Hi Hi"
Based in the Alberta Arts District of Portland, Oregon, HiiH creates handmade lighting for residential and commercial applications throughout the country. Lām Quảng and Kestrel Gates specialize in artisanal papermaking and original handcrafted lamps, lanterns, light sculptures, and distinctive lighting solutions of all kinds.  Designs encompass sconces, ceiling fixtures, table lamps, standing lamps, pendants, chandeliers - and beyond, to include other furnishings such as screens.

Beginning with natural raw materials, using both traditional and self-
taught techniques, HiiH create illuminated paper forms.  The rhythms, of
paper-making, bending wire, and papering, painting and waxing, shape
our days and weeks.  They work collaboratively, inspiring one another
into further exploration.

The work feels both functional and expressive.  They pay close attention to how the light will affect the feeling and usage of a space.  HiiH are deeply inspired by the natural world and natural life cycles.

"These qualities of new growth, of silence, of fruition that we see around using the natural world we also feel within us.  With our work, we hope to enhance these elements in other people's lives."

The HiiH Lighting sculptures will be on view and available for purchase Saturday afternoon if you are unable to attend the opening reception for the artists.

it reemerged in Japan as anime and bounced back elsewhere as a delicate version of Pop with a punk twist."  Regina Hackett 8/09
