Kinu Watanabe was born in Niigata, Japan in 1979. She attended the Osaka University of Arts in Osaka, Japan and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ceramics in 2003. With an interest in the U.S. contemporary art scene, she moved to San Diego where she completed a Post-Baccalaureate in ceramics at San Diego State University in 2005. During the 2005-2006 school year, she was the ceramic lab technician, while continuing her ceramic practice in a studio provided by the university.
Kinu received Masters of Fine Arts in Ceramics from University of Washington in June 2008 and she is currently a resident artist and instructor at Pottery Northwest in Seattle.
Kinu has recently exhibited in a solo show at SOIL Backspace Gallery in Seattle in December 2008; she is also showing in NCECA 2009 Clay National Biannual Exhibition at Arizona State University Ceramic Research Center in Phoenix, AZ in April 2009.
