Lynda Sherman the letterpress

Letterpress printing is a centuries old technology that has as much relevance today as it did centuries ago. By using this age old process, one taps into the shared knowledge passed down through generations. Printing with cast type, which uses an interlocking series of Fibonacci numbers, it is a mathematical formula that creates balance and symmetry. These and other mystical secrets will be revealed when master printer Lynda Sherman speaks at KOBO at Higo on January 17th. Lynda will share her years of trials, tribulations and joys while she tells of her adventures as a Lady Printer. About the artist Lynda Sherman has been printing under the Bremelo Press impression since 2000. Currently working from her studio in the Little Saigon District of Seattle, Lynda first began letterpress printing 15 years ago with master printer Dikko Faust in New York City. Lynda finds her inspiration in the surreal life of being a letterpress printer in the 21st century. Using handset metal and wood type, she translates everyday experiences into beautiful hand held cards and objects; a passing comment from a window washer becomes a poem, a trip to the grocery store becomes a haiku and a ride on the #36 bus becomes a valentine.

Small works will be exhibited and available for purchase. |
