KOBO will be open this Sunday for a special opening reception for Massachusetts ceramic artist, Mark Shapiro.  (*Kobo at Higo is typically closed on Sundays)
 
An exhibition of his latest work from his most recent firing will be featured.  This is a rare opportunity to see the work of one of the most established studio potters in the country.
 
Mark Shapiro has made wood fired functional pots in Western Massachusetts for the past twenty years. He is a frequent workshop leader and panelist. His interests include early American stoneware as a source of inspiration for contemporary potters, apprenticeship, and criticism and documentation of the field. His work is shown by the Ferrin and Lacoste Galleries in Massachusetts and is in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian Institution, the Racine Art Museum, the Mint Museum (NC), the International Museum of Ceramics at Alfred, NY, and the Currier Museum (NH).

Gallery Talk:  "The World of Noh Drama through Sound and Vision"

Hosei University, Tokyo Japan

Prof. Nishino's book
Professor Nishino is the director of the Nogami Memorial Institute for Noh Studies and a professor of literature at Hosei University.   He is currently a visiting professor at the University of Washington.

Professor Nishino will talk about Noh theatre and show images of actual Noh performances in a discussion and presentation for the general public.  His talk will be in Japanese, with English interpretation.
