Take A Trip Back -to NY in the 1960's - happening NEXT MONDAY 8/6

As part of the Baggage Project, which we began showing in 2011 with "Woman Sleeping" and "Tap Dance Widows Club", I have been planning a dance based on Patti Smith's "Just Kids" since almost the beginning. The theme of the Baggage Project has to do with how when some one dies you are close to, you continue to carry that person with you because of the love and support that was part of that relationship - baggage in a good way, that helps illuminate areas that may still be undefined. We will be doing the actual premier of some of the works from the series on November 16-18 at the Miles Playhouse. But first...coming up on MONDAY AUGUST 6, 2012 at 7:30 pm, we are showing a new work from the series in progress at MAX 10 at the Electric Lodge in Venice.

I hope you can come--- there will be 10 artists each with 10 minutes to try out some new work - and for $10 at the door (no advance sales) you get to see all of us as well as a free reception with beer, wine, and snacks after the performance. And free parking. For me it is a great way to see my work on stage and talk to people about it afterwards. We have 8 of our dancers performing!! Besides the new work we will also be doing the effervescent concluding dance from 'Tap Dance Widows Club' called 'Brandenburg" with its multiple styles from the film the work has become, worked into the contemporary fabric of our live dancers.

Louise Reichlin & Dancers/ Los Angeles Choreographers & Dancers shows work in progress at the first Max 10 of the season on Monday August 6 at 7:30 pm.

The Electric Lodge- 1416 Electric Avenue, Venice CA 90291.

TriArt Festival Becomes SP  Tri Art Festival

We are delighted to announce that the first SP ♥ TRI ART Festival is coming to San Pedro this September 22rd & 23rd from 11:00am -8:00 pm. Inspired by the past 5 annually held TriArt Festivals, this year's expanded format will be a more integrated event, still including dance, music, and art, and still FREE to everyone.

Located in San Pedro's own Ports O'Call Village, the SP ♥ TRI ART Festival is produced by Los Angeles Choreographers & Dancers, in conjunction with People's Place San Pedro and with Mike Caccavalla. Louise Reichlin is Director of the non-profit Los Angeles Choreographers & Dancers, and is also Dance Director for the Festival. Mike Caccavalla, son of Joe Caccavalla, the founder of the Festival, is Music Director. Jan Kain, Owner/Director People's Yoga, Health & Dance is Community Program Coordinator.

Our Festival this year is dedicated to the memory of Joe Caccavalla, the original Festival Founder and Director. Joe passed away on June 19, 2012, leaving behind the festival legacy and his vision for art. We are happy to continue spreading his love of art to the residents of San Pedro.

For an advance look at the dance companies on this year's festival take a look at the new web site, still in progress, designed by LA C&D's marketing intern Anna Finch. Check back often for more descriptions and schedule.

Teaching and Performing in Schools

We are just finishing summer programs at Buchanan and Victory Elementary Schools under the banner of LA's Best. Angela Todaro and Elizabeth Ann Poinsette are our teachers for these.  Louise Reichlin begins leading a residency at Baca Arts Academy assisted this month by Angela Todaro. We also do a Professional Development session called "Weaving Dance Into the Curriculum" for ABC District in Cerritos. Angela, Elizabeth, and Tonya Vivian work with Louise on that one. Steven Nielsen is coaching the cheer squad at Frederick Douglass Academy HS. If you are interested in a project for your school, contact us now.

We have just learned that we have again been awarded a matching grant through  the Don Knabe Educational Arts Partnership, so if you are in his County District, you can get us with a hefty discount. Please call us at 213-385-1171 or our email

Special thanks to you for your support! Please continue to contribute and consider raising the amount if you are able. As we begin our 2012-2013 season, we are pleased that we do have support from our city and county, but every dollar needs matching funds to collect. Please visit our website to make your donation.
