Upcoming Event-  Louise Reichlin & Dancers performance at the TriArt Festival

Brandenburg

Above: Zsolt Banki & Angelina Prendergast perform Brandenburg.

We will be performing on Sunday, September 25th at 1:10 pm. We will perform a dance excerpt from Tap Dance Widows Club, titled Brandenburg. We had wonderful visual animation art for our original performance of the piece; however, since the festival is outdoors and during the day, we have adapted the end with new choreography. We will also be performing Mourning Light from our new work Baggage, shown last in May at the Miles Memorial Playhouse. Also in that clip are excerpts from Woman Sleeping. Our performance at TriArt will also include excerpts from The Patchwork Girl of Oz including some that have not been seen in LA since 2005.

For the complete TriArt dance schedule, please visit the TriArt Dance website. You can also visit the TriArt Festival website for more information.

Upcoming Event- "Dance at the Stone House" in November

Stone house stone house

This year we will be performing our 5th Annual Dance at the Stone House on Wednesday, November 16th at 10:30 am and 12 noon. This site-specific work uses audience participation to design a dance based on the unusual architecture and art that is the Sun Valley Youth Arts Center.

Built in 1925, the building, designated as a City Cultural Historical monument, has been transformed into a first-of-its-kind art education center in the East San Fernando Valley. This piece is the first of Reichlin's interactive The Reality Series, where the audience becomes aware of elements around us often overlooked.

This interactive event uses 5 dancers and 60-80 fourth-sixth graders for each performance-workshop. We are now looking for schools to take part in the Dance at the Stone House.

If your school is interested in signing up, please contact Louise Reichlin right away as space is very limited via email or via phone at 213-385-1171. The event is also free and open to the general public so call us for reservations.

For a Review/blog about the 2009 performance, please visit DanceInLA, Anna Reed, writer.

About "The Patchwork Girl of Oz"

Adapted from the original children's classic by L. Frank Baum, creator of The Wizard of Oz, the dance/multimedia work The Patchwork Girl of Oz has packed houses in 4 states. This magical, modern-day fable brings to life the adventures of a young boy named Ojo as he goes on a quest to bring his uncle (who has been turned into marble) back to life. Along the way he makes new friends, including the marvelously contemporary Patchwork Girl, and learns the importance of working together as part of a community. Although the original book was written in 1913, its values of cooperation, family, friendship, respect for all life, and most importantly self-reliance are still important almost 100 years later.

The piece includes ten fantastical dances, woven together with multimedia, music, and narration that help tell the story. This show is perfect for parents and children to attend together. While young viewers will be delighted by the magical world of Oz and Ojo's adventures, adults will enjoy the imaginative combination of jubilant dancing and choreography, lively and exotic music, sophisticated multimedia imagery and fabulous costumes. Beverly Hills Outlook raved, "The choreography uses a wonderfully playful approach... the music a delightful surprise... along with sophisticated multimedia."

Looking for Schools & Presenters

Would you like to present us at your school or performing arts center? Ideally, we are looking for presenters and schools located in Los Angeles to present us in December 2011, as well as presenters and schools on the east coast near the Long Island Children's Museum (including NY, PA, NJ) to present our performance sometime in the first two weeks of January 2012.

Would you like to perform in The Patchwork Girl of Oz? Do you have 4th-6th graders in your organization that would like to participate? The Patchwork Girl of Oz can include 26 dance participants from your community as part of this interactive production! The students become the characters of the Joking Horners and the Hoppers, two groups of Oz inhabitants about to wage war over a joke.

For your information, contact Louise Reichlin via  email or via phone at 213-385-1171.

A look at 2010-2011- Educational Activities

This past year we provided a range of services and activities to schools. Our earliest school residencies included The Tennis Dances and Multicultural Dances. Since then we have provided our critically acclaimed Dance at the Stone House, and for the first time ever, we created study guides for The Better to Bite You With

The photo pictures the last rehearsal where we go back once this has happened to troubleshoot. They research costumes and do a fabulous job teaching the material, finally performing for their annual International Dance Day. This type of Professional Development (PD) for teachers and their students is one PD we offer featured on the revised LA County for Arts Education website.
