A Look at 2010-2011 - Performances - Revivals and New Works
smshiverWe introduce the revival of the 1981 Woman Sleeping at the Max 10 at the Electric Lodge in February where we saw Audri Phillips work who was also performing. Her visual art became part of the new works including Mourning Light and Tap Dance Widows Club. Another revival Remembrance (1990 and 1996) was paired with images of those who have passed on submitted to us from readers through the internet. All this was combined with another of Audri's visuals creating a new work that affected many.

These were performed at Alvas Showroom in San Pedro in March and at the Miles Memorial Playhouse in Santa Monica in May. The new works under  the project title "Baggage" is still being developed, with additional sections projected next season. Tap Dance Widows Club had a sound score and video directed by Louise Reichlin, with the three widows of Jon Zerby (Loretta), Fayard Nicholas (Kathryn Hopkins), and Alfred Desio (Louise), featuring many clips of their husbands along with live dance combined into the 50' video. M'saada Nia recreated Desio's opening from Caution: Men At Work, TAP for our dancers and also performed. For short video clips please see the new videos on our NEWS page.

A Look At 2010-2011 - Educational Activities

sungleadinggroupstonehouse11/10
Dance At the Stone House is now in its 4th year, and we gave 4 free programs of the interactive event to 4 schools in the LAUSD. They included 4-6th graders from El Oro EL, Cantara EL, So Region MS and Plainview. The photo shows Sung-Yun Park leading exuberant students through a moving statue of Angela Todaro and Zsolt Banki. A slide-show of the event can be seen on our web site as part of a photo album. The event was also featured in the LAUSD Arts Newsletter. A number of curriculum residencies include Jefferson EL in Paramount District and Aeolian EL in Los Nietos District, where we created a new "teeth dream" in our first The Better To Bite You With school residency. (shown below wearing the t-shirts each student designed for their performance while working with our costumer Linda Borough) . We also just completed a residency at Chase EL in Panorama City where we taught dances from five continents to five classes that then taught them to all the grades of that level for a huge International Festival, an annual end of year event. Our after school programs were at Our Lady of Loretto, with three more series at Vine St through a partnership with the Hollywood Arts Council's Project Soar. We return to both locations in the fall. Please contact us if interested in either Curriculum or After School Programs. Education for young people is an important part of our mission.

Additional Projects - Dance Showcase 2010 & TriArt Festival
smsalinee
We started this past season co-producing the 2010 Dance Showcase for the Western Arts Alliance conference giving us the opportunity to both perform and meet 15 companies, a number of them new to our city in terms of performance. At the TriArt Festival Reichlin coordinated the Dance segment, again giving us the opportunity of performing with many of the companies already in our city. This year the festival continues with some strong out of town performances along with a change in venue. Look for the announcement in July.
Special Thanks
Special thanks to our government fundors that certainly deserve our attention. Without them (and many of you who donate to our company) we could not continue. Please go to our web site and make a donation.  Our next performances are at the TriArt Festival on Sept. 24 and 25. If you are in LA we hope to see you there.
