"The best thing I have ever done for myself... and the best part is, NO JOINT PAIN!"
At the age of 34 I have spent most of my life dealing with joint issues. Ankles, wrists, knees, you name it, if I have it it's pretty much guaranteed to be defective. When I played volleyball in high school I think there was more athletic tape showing on my body than actual skin. Through my teens and most of my 20s I was blessed with a metabolism that allowed me to indulge my fast food habit while still maintaining a weight of less than 130 pounds at 5'6" without ever having to work out or diet. When I turned 28 I discovered that my days of carefree eating and soda consumption were quickly coming to an end.
I slowly began gaining weight, and before I knew it I was 25 pounds heavier. I came to find out that my initial weight gain was attributed to a medical condition, which thankfully, through several major surgeries has been treated and I am now healthier than ever. Yet I found myself several years later still trying to adjust to the new way my body dealt with the foods I was feeding it, and I ended up gaining a total of 40 pounds. Having never had to diet or exercise before, I was kind of at a loss as to where to begin. |

I finally decided enough was enough, and I signed up for Weight Watchers, which worked great for me...at first. Unfortunately, once I had lost the weight I quickly slipped back into my old habits and regained most of the weight I had lost. It was then I realized that I needed to not only change the way I was eating but that I also needed to do the thing I most dreaded...exercise!
I had never done any type of serious workout program, but for whatever reason I decided that a fitness boot camp sounded like an excellent idea. I suppose I am like most people in that I wanted the quickest results I could get for my efforts. When I went for my initial consultation I explained to them the limitations I have due to my joint issues. I have always jokingly said that my body was just not made for running. Upon hearing me say this the boot camp owner informed me that "everyone can run." I suppose I later proved her wrong when one week into a four-week program I was left completely immobile after a set of running exercises and was forced to drop the program under doctor's orders. Having practically no cartilage in my knees made it impossible for me to continue with the intensity that the boot camp required. That left me frustrated and unmotivated to start anything! |

Several months ago I was at the doctor's office for yet another wrist problem and I asked my doctor what he recommended as far as a workout program that I could do successfully given my medical history. He immediately recommended Pilates, and that's when I found Private Fitness and The Pilates & Yoga Room. After one session on the Pilates reformer I was a total convert.
Now here I am three months later, a totally changed woman. I never used to understand people who enjoyed working out. I knew working out was something I needed to do, but I never thought I would find something that I would actually look forward to doing. I now find that my reformer classes are the best part of my week. They are truly the best thing I have ever done for myself.
I never dreamed I would find a workout routine that I would not only enjoy so thoroughly but would provide me with such amazing results. Not only have my reformer classes kick started my weight loss but I feel so much stronger. The best part of all...no joint pain!! Since beginning Pilates I haven't had any joint flare-ups, and I have no longer needed my regular chiropractic adjustments. I can't speak highly enough about the incredible results I have had. I am halfway to my goal and actually find myself looking forward to getting the rest of the way there! I couldn't be happier! ~ Sara, 34 years
