Basic Training

Heck Yeah!

Last year
President Jim focused on big picture leadership training. For example the Head Bands training were we learned about group dynamics and how people behave in relation to how they are treated. Or when we did the famous Yes/No game and learned strategies for working through adversarial relationships - aka work politics 101 ;-)

This year
I'm focusing on basics. Don't get me wrong, I loved last year's training. But with so many new members I want to make sure we're mastering the basic stuff so we can prepare another new generation of leaders.

At the January meeting we had a thorough review of parliamentary procedure. Our Trainer Mark Holden expertly guided us through about two hours of content in under twenty minutes! He gave us strategies we could use at controversial city council meetings as well as small board settings. He even wrote a booklet on the subject with a cheat sheet in it so we didn't have to take notes!

At our March meeting we'll have another expert in to get even more in depth about how to run good meetings.

Basic stuff you say? Yes, but even with professional experience and years of community experience, it's the basics that make the difference between good & great.

We're a 501C-4 non-profit group.

We offer people 21-40 ways to meet people and volunteer.

We develop the leadership skills of individuals by providing specific opportunities over and above what's available to them in their regular lives. We provide opportunities for Community Action, Networking, and Personal & Professional Development.

There's just no better excuse to get together with friends, have fun and make difference.

No more snow delays! Let's get busy!

With February's snow behind us, the Shelton Jaycees are ready to roll.

We have an outstanding agenda planned for the March meeting!

This Tuesday (March 9th) at our monthly Membership meeting at Pinerock Firehouse you can:
  • Join our Mad Mad Membership Team and help plan & promote our Best Pizza in Shelton Open House.
  • Sign Up to be a part of the web site redesign team.
  • Reserve your space at our billiards night social.
  • Sign up for our scavenger hunt and more!
In spite of February being almost entirely snowed out, we've made great progress this year. We had a good turnout at our January brainstorming meeting, an excellent turnout at our planning meeting, and our first Community Fundraiser went off without a hitch.

March is when things really get going. Come on out to the meeting on Tuesday and be a part of it!

Together we're going to do great things,
