I need your help.

Two of our largest community events so far this year happen THIS weekend!

The American Cancer Society Relay is this Saturday June 6th and our 45th Annual Arts & Crafts Fair is this Sunday June 7th.

Your help is needed Big Time!

Our Relay team has been running fundraisers since February. As of Wednesday night the Shelton Jaycees Party Animals have collected over two thousand dollars in donations for the American Cancer Society!

From 10 am to noon on Saturday we set up and decorate our team site at Riverwalk Park. At noon there is an opening ceremony and a survivors lap. Each team will have a tent and display. Many teams will be selling items or running activities to raise additional funds for the cause. There will be a kid's section, Live bands on stage and crazy laps such as pajama, crazy hair, hat, costume, etc...

The Shelton Jaycees Party Animals tent will run: a Kids Pinata game from 1 pm - 2 pm, a Limbo contest 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm, Left-Right-Center game 4 pm - 5 pm, Pong Aid 6 pm - 8:30 pm. After the Luminaries ceremony (10/10:30 pm) - we'll have S'mores.

Feel free to stop by and stay as long as you'd like. People come and go throughout. You are still able to collect money too. We can hand it all in on Saturday. For more details contact Kris at 203-751-7626 or Melissa at 203-673-9917

Sunday is our 45th Annual Arts & Crafts Fair on the Huntington Green. Even if you can only give one hour of your time, contact Kate right away at 203-623-6698. We need your help!

New this year: breakfast sandwiches starting at 7am, a morning muscle crew to help guide exhibitors and help them set up in a proper spot, a Jaycee run Kid's Craft Area, gated entrances to the green and a silent auction and raffle tent.

Sharon will be in charge of the food booth area and Tom will be our head chef on the grill. Being that we're starting at 7am they're going to need plenty of help. It's going to be a hot day and we're going to need to rotate volunteers so everyone can take a break!

Wendy will be in charge of the new silent auction and raffle. She'll need help handing out rebates to the exhibitors that donate items, as well as help setting up table displays and selling tickets.

Kris will be running a kid's craft area, Blythe will be helping coordinate exhibitor registration and judging, Melissa will be helping with judging, Jarid Sam and Jim will be organizing morning and afternoon muscle crews to help exhibitors with set up and take down. There are more people to mention and so many others who have helped with prep work. Forgive me if I have missed anyone, I left my note's at Kate's house!

More help is needed working the food booth, helping elderly exhibitors throughout the day, collecting donations at the gates and selecting the best artist and best crafts person.

While Saturday is all about celebrating cancer survivors and honoring those who have been lost, Sunday is about raising the start up cash for our general fund so we can run more projects like the one on Saturday!

If you're not already scheduled to be at either one or both of these events... can you help?

PS. Here's what's happening after this weekend:

The June meeting is Tuesday June 9th 8pm at Pinerock Firehouse. There will be Car Show & Bazaar planning meetings Sunday June 14th 5pm at Panera Bread. We'll finish out June with a Hike 3.4 miles along the Derby River Walk 6:45 pm Tuesday June 23rd, and our Children's Magic Show at the community center 1pm Saturday June 27th.

For July we're working on a food drive to benefit the ACT Spooner House shelter, a picnic and volleyball social, and a wine & beer tasting event (perhaps to benefit Down syndrome).

We'll have a second edition of the June newsletter with more information about the rest of the month!
