I'm very proud to announce two new additions to the chapter Board of Directors.  Sharon Herman is stepping up to become our Business Area Vice President and Kris White is stepping up to become our Individual Area Vice President.  As the Business Vice President Sharon will be assisting with recruiting project chairmen, chapter marketing & PR, fundraising plus project documentation and planning.  As the Individual Area Vice President Kris will be assisting with recruiting project chairmen, membership growth, chapter activities & socials, as well as personal and professional skills training events. Sharon & Kris will join our outstanding Community Vice President, Melissa and the rest of the BODs to help offer a wide variety of chapter events!

When you join the Jaycees there's a short membership swearing in ceremony. It's a goofy and fun ritual often done Animal House style. The president calls the new members to the front of the room, says a few words then starts-
"Please raise your right hand and repeat after me: I state your name"

<Response by new member> "I state your name" <Applause from audience>

The most important part of the swearing in ceremony to me is not the promise made to uphold the principles and traditions of the Shelton Jaycees, the CT Jaycees & the US Jaycees, it's the few words stated before you're asked to raise your right hand:

"You are about to become a member of the greatest organization in the world today. The Jaycees offer an opportunity to meet an aggressive group of young people, take part in worthwhile projects, fulfill a need for personal growth and contribute to society."

No other club offers more opportunities for hands-on leadership training through community action and organizational involvement than the Jaycees. Even if you just step up to organize a simple social or food drive, it's an additional life experience you've gained beyond what you would have ordinarily experienced either through your career or your daily life. These actions and experiences all add up to make a difference, both in your own life and in the lives of others.
We'll see YOU the meeting on the 12th!

Kate-Photo Welcome new members! Sam, Blythe, Josh, Tom and Heather!

Thanks for joining!

There are no required meetings or projects but we do ask that all members fill out a project survey so the chapter board can schedule events that interest you.

If you haven't filled out a survey yet click this link and fill one out right now!

I'm so impressed with everything we've accomplished in April. We had several great planning meetings. The Car Show & Bazaar, The Relay, and The Arts & Crafts Fair are all on their way to being very successful. Our Relay fundraiser at Walmart was outstanding! We raised over three hundred bucks! I hear a great time was had at Hula Hanks. At our Fourth Tuesday Social we played board games and had a blast! BTW never ask Jim N. to hum "It's getting hot in here", it's just sad :(

At our Earth Day event we picked up a ton of garbage and may have even solved a crime. You'll have to come to the membership meeting on May 12th to hear all about this.

See you all at the next event!

Kate :-)
Mother's Day Flower Sale

May 8th - 10th Friday, Saturday and Sunday. You're invited to help sell Mother's Day Flowers at Pinerock Firehouse 722 Long Hill Ave. This event covers much of the start up costs of our other projects.  Even if you can only volunteer for an hour or two, many hands make light work.  The weekend of the 1st through 3rd will be a little slow. It's a great opportunity to play cards! Fridays we'll be open from 10AM - 8PM. Saturday & Sunday 8AM - 6PM.  We could use help on Thursday evenings as well, unloading the Flower Truck and posting signs. Contact Jim @ 203-521-2498 for details or sign up here!

2nd Tues. SPECIAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING

Don't Miss the May Membership Meeting - This Tuesday May 12th 8 PM at Greater Valley Chamber meeting room, 900 Bridgeport Ave. Shelton.

We're Meeting at a new location for the May meeting. The Greater Valley Chamber offices are on the 2nd floor of the Wachovia Bank Building between Burger King and Stop & Shop. At this meeting, we'll have a special guest trainer to give a half hour presentation on working with different personality types. We'll also be collecting gently used clothes for a second hand shop where all proceeds benefit local victims of domestic violence.  Project updates will run about 20 minutes.  Upcoming Events planning will happen after that.  Later we'll head out to a nearby pub & restaurant.

Guests and prospective members are always welcome!

Learn about Working with Different Personality Types - Aka Color Typing

At this month's membership meeting, Tuesday May 12th 8 pm. We've managed to get a Special Guest Trainer who will give a 30 - 40 minute presentation on different personality types, how to spot them, and how to motivate them. It's Color Typing based on Myers Briggs and Carl Jung typological theories.

Have you ever had an argument with a double Brown, been lost traveling in a car with a Green Blue, been seduced by a Blue Green or been to a party with a hell raising Orange? This seminar is extremely entertaining and fun. You'll be talking about it long afterwards!

Don't miss it. This Tuesday May 12th 8 PM at Greater Valley Chamber meeting room, 900 Bridgeport Ave. Shelton. Click here for directions

Spring Clothing Drive at Membership Meeting

Also at our May membership meeting we're having a clothing drive - That's this Tuesday May 12th 8 pm at the Greater Valley Chamber Office. 900 Bridgeport Ave. in Shelton. We'll be at the GVCC office's large meeting room on the second floor above Wachovia Bank. If you know where Burger King is on Bridgeport Ave. it's the building next door.

As you switch your closet over for the change of season, set aside some of your unwanted gently used clothes and bring them to our May meeting.  We'll be bringing them to a thrift shop in Ansonia where the profits benefit the Birmingham Group Health Services Umbrella program for victims of domestic violence.
