We offer people 21-40 opportunities to meet people and volunteer.
It's hands-on leadership training through Community Action beyond what's available through the corporate world and other organizations.
Members participate in as much as they'd like and only at events that interest them.

| Car Show & Bazaar Planning |
Sun. April 5th 5PM. at Pinerock Firehouse, 722 Long Hill Ave. we'll begin planning our 21st Annual Car Show & Bazaar. Riverwalk Park is currently reserved for us Sunday August 30th. (Rain date Sept. 13th). It's a twelve acre site that can easily fit five hundred cars with room to spare.
Our Car Show is a huge project and we need all the help we can get. We need to plan trophy sponsorship, awards categories, judge recruiting, vendor recruiting, advertising and more. Last year we expanded from 38 to 50 awards categories and we increased our attendance substantially.
We will be done by 7PM, so if you want to watch the women's NCAA final four game between Louisville and Oklahoma (7PM tip off), you'll be home before half time!
Just in case you're worried, the Uconn women's team doesn't play Stanford until 9:30PM!
If you can't make the meeting but would still like to help plan the project call or text Jim at 203-521-2498

| 2nd Tues. Membership Meeting and Social |
Please attend the Membership Meeting and Social - This Tuesday April 14th 8 PM at Pinerock Firehouse, 722 Longhill Ave. Shelton.
At this meeting, project reports will run about 15 - 20 minutes. Shooting the bull will run about another 15 to 20 minutes after that. Later we'll head out to a nearby pub & restaurant. As always, guests and prospective members are welcome! For directions, Click Here or text/call Jim at 203-521-2498

| Walmart - SJC's Party Animals ACS Relay Donations |
|
Sun. April 19th 8AM to 6PM the SJC's Party Animals American Cancer Society Relay team will be collecting cash donations at Walmart 465 Bridgeport Ave. in Shelton.
The Relay itself is June 6th at Riverwalk Park, 118 Canal St. beginning at noon. It's a team event to fight cancer where we'll camp out overnight and take turns walking around the track to raise money and awareness to support the cause.
It's just $10 to join the team. That covers your registration, team shirt and team camp site. You can use the tools at the Relay Team web site to collect donations on your own, or you can just help out at team fundraisers like this one.

| Arts & Crafts Fair Planning Meeting |
|
Tues. April 21st 7:30PM we'll be meeting at Panera Bread, 850 Bridgeport Ave. in Shelton to plan for our 45th Annual Arts & Crafts Fair. This year's Fair will be Sunday June 7th (Rain date 6/14). We already have nearly forty exhibitors registered! Typically we get between 65 and 80 exhibitors each year.
This event has grown so large that, like our Car Show, it needs to be planned 12 months in advance. In addition to ironing out all of the "day of" details for this year's Fair, we need to begin planning our 2010 event!
New this year, we're offering a teacup drawing to be held at the gazebo. We're looking for a few other ways we can increase profits and reduce costs.
You're invited to get in on the action! Contact Kate for details and directions at 203-623-6698

| IMPORTANT SJC's Party Animals ACS Relay Team Meeting |
Wed. April 22nd 6:45 PM at 9 Tomlinson Street in Ansonia. If you would like to be on this year's American Cancer Society Relay Team, PLEASE make sure to be at this important meeting. If you are not registered on-line yet you can do so at this link. You can register at the meeting itself but we'd rather you did it on-line in advance.
We need at least ten team members to put in their $10 registrations by the 22nd or we will need to dip into Jaycee general funds to reserve our campsite and team shirts. There are already 22 other teams and over 120 participants signed up. The sooner every one registers, the sooner we can reserve a good space on the field!
Contact Melissa at 203-673-9917 or Kris at 203-751-7626 for details. |
| Hula Hanks SJC's Party Animals ACS Relay Team Donations |
|
Sat. April 25th 10PM - 12 AM at Hula Hanks in New Haven we'll be giving away silk flower leis in exchange for $1 donations to our ACS Relay Team. Dancing on the bar is optional and should only be done if you have experience! GPS address is 216 Crown St. in New Haven. There's a limited number of people we can get in the club with no cover charge so we need to know in advance if you plan on attending.
As mentioned above, please register for the The Relay Team by April 22nd!
Contact Melissa at 203-673-9917 or Kris at 203-751-7626 for details. |
| Earth Day Clean-Up |
Sun. April 26th Noon to 4:30PM This year we're coordinating our Earth Day efforts with the Shelton Litter Committee's Clean-Sweep/Don't Trash Shelton events! We'll be picking up trash along the Far Mill River and Rte 8, just off Beard Sawmill Rd. This area needs some serious clean-up. At first glance you may not think it's so bad, but once you fan out a bit, there's garbage everywhere. The GPS address is 100 Beard Sawmill Rd. We'll meet at noon under the Rte 8 overpass. (Within eyesight of the entrance to Health Net) Wear boots or other appropriate footwear. Jaycees will provide work gloves and garbage bags. Obviously there will be broken glass and other hazards to be careful around. All volunteers MUST sign liability waiver on the day of the event. Contact Kate for details at (203) 623-6698. |
| Fourth Tuesday Social - Suggestions Needed! |
|
Tues. April 28th, sometime in the evening! Last month for our Fourth Tuesday Social we went out to the Blue Cube for a Billiards Night. Nikole brought a bunch of friends with her from work and we had a blast. In February we went to Seymour theaters to watch a movie. In January we got together for dinner at Ruby Tuesdays. It's a random social event with no work involved.
Right now there's been a few of ideas suggested. 1) a board game night or 2) a karaoke night or 3) indoor Go-Cart racing (there's nothing like spring air to bring out the road rage!)
Click here if you'd like to attend our Fourth Tuesday Social night. Feel free to make a suggestion. When we have a consensus gathering we'll promote it via facebook and an action e-mail. |
| Mother's Day Flower Sale |
May 1st - 3rd & 8th - 10th Friday, Saturday and Sunday for 2 weeks! You're invited to help sell Mother's Day Flowers at Pinerock Firehouse 722 Long Hill Ave. This event covers much of the start up costs of our other projects. Even if you can only volunteer for an hour or two, many hands make light work. The weekend of the 1st through 3rd will be a little slow. It's a great opportunity to play cards! Fridays we'll be open from 10AM - 8PM. Saturday & Sunday 8AM - 6PM. We could use help on Thursday evenings as well, unloading the Flower Truck and posting signs. Contact Jim @ 203-521-2498 to sign up! |
| Spring Clothing Drive at Membership Meeting |
|
Tuesday May 12th 8PM at the Greater Valley Chamber Office. 900 Bridgeport Ave. in Shelton. The Firehouse is unavailable for our May Meeting. We'll be at the GVCC office's large meeting room on the second floor above Wachovia Bank. If you know where Burger King is on Bridgeport Ave. it's the building next door. As you switch your closet over for the change of season, set aside some of your unwanted gently used clothes and bring them to our May meeting. We'll be bringing them to a thrift shop in Ansonia where the profits benefit the BGHS Umbrella program for victims of domestic violence.
Project reports will run about 15 - 20 minutes. Shooting the bull will run about another 15 to 20 minutes after that. Later we'll head out to a nearby pub & restaurant. As always, guests and prospective members are welcome!
