| Greetings! |

I need your help in 2009 making the Shelton Jaycees the Number 1 organization for people 21-40 in southern CT!
We offer more opportunities to meet people and volunteer than any other club. It's Hands-on Leadership Training through Community Action beyond what's available through the corporate world and other organizations.
Last month's Orientation M-Nights were a great success and plans are already in the works for this years projects. You can help by filling out a projects survey online HERE.
5 new members joined in January! Kristian White, Sarah Borgerding, Sharon Herman, Adriana Dreher and Jim Lee. Sharon Herman is already chairing her first project, the Annual Best Pizza M-Night. (see Best Pizza article below)
The minimum requirements for membership are that you fill out a Survey and that you come to as many meetings and events as you'd like. How's that for a Big Commitment!
We're all busy people with family health and career obligations so no one can possibly attend everything, and you're not expected to.
But as chapter president I know that everyone has time for Jaycees... if we (as leaders) make it worth your time. This is why the Survey is so important. We need to know what events are worth your time!
Through the Jaycees I've met and worked with amazing people, done a lot of hands-on volunteering, and raised a lot of money for charities. I can tell you from experience the best opportunity the Jaycees provide, is the opportunity to make life long friends. I've made more than I can count, from right here in my local chapter, to across the state and country. I'm reminded of that always, when I meet friends at every Jaycee event I attend.
I hope I'll see YOU at a Shelton Jaycees event soon!
Jim Nissen #55, President 2009
|
| Chairman of the Board #54 - Kate Jager |
This past weekend eleven of us attended the CT Jaycees 2008 Year End Convention and Awards Banquet. Melissa, Adriana and Jim Lee were first timers! Our chapter had a lot to celebrate. Last year we increased our membership nearly 30% and we were the second highest growth chapter in the state.
Our chapter was recognized for excellence for hosting the 3rd quarter Region 1 Meeting and we finished the year ranked #5 in the CT Jaycees Parade of Chapters. Nikole Lindley won State Director of the Quarter and Jim Nissen won an Outstanding Local VP award. (Of course we already knew Nikole & Jim were top performers)
Our chapter also won 1 of just 3 Year-End Outstanding Local President's awards. To be recognized as a Year-End OLP you have to be a local president of an Outstanding Chapter. I'm so proud to have been your president in 2008 and I was honored to receive that award on behalf of our chapter!
2009 is off to a great start but President Jim needs your help making this year the best year possible. If you haven't already, please fill out a Survey On-Line to help the chapter board plan the coming months.
We'll see you at the next event!

| 2nd Tues. Membership Meeting and Social |
Please attend the Membership Meeting and Social - Tuesday February 10th 8 PM at Pinerock Firehouse, 722 Longhill Ave. Shelton. At this meeting we'll be updating our bylaws for the first time in over ten years! If you are a voting member and didn't receive the proposed changes through the mail, please contact 203-521-2498 right away so you can be brought up to speed.
There are just two major changes proposed. 1) Change the Chapter Officer Structure to reflect changes in National programs. 2) Add a Dissolution article to guide the chapter should it ever become unable to continue.
After the Bylaw changes, project reports will run about 15 - 20 minutes. Shooting the bull will run about another 15 to 20 minutes after that. Later we'll head out to a nearby pub & restaurant. As always, guests and prospective members are welcome!

| Best Pizza in Shelton Open-house / M-Night Committee Meeting |
|
Thursday Feb. 12th 7p.m. at Huntington Street Cafe there will be a committee meeting to plan our annual Best Pizza in Shelton Open-house. New member Sharon Herman has volunteered to chair this event and she has some exciting new ideas for this year!
We'd like to run this event in March if possible. The purpose of the project is to invite prospective members from the community to help us choose the Best Pizza in Shelton, all while they learn a little bit about the Shelton Jaycees and what we do.
The event is always a lot of fun, and gets us great exposure in the press. To sign up to help Sharon run this event, come to the committee meeting!

| 4th Tues. Social - Movie Night |
|
Tuesday February 24th will be our second 4th Tuesday social of the year. In January a bunch of members met at Ruby Tuesdays. No police were called so we figure it's safe to run another social in February ;-)
This month we've decided to do a Movie Night. Come to the Membership meeting on Feb 10th to hear all about last months social and to choose the movie we'll go see this month! If you can't make the membership meeting but still want to attend the 4th Tuesday Social, you can email your movie suggestions here.

| Bowl a Strike Against Domestic Violence |
|
Saturday March 7th the Birmingham Health Services foundation is running their 21st Annual Bowl-to-Benefit the Umbrella (a crucial program to help area victims of domestic violence)
In keeping with tradition, our club has sponsored a lane again this year. The big change this year is that the event will take place at AMF Lanes in Milford, CT instead of at the Derby Lanes.
We have one Jaycee team signed up so far, and we'd like to bring one or two more this year. The minimum pledge collection amount is $50 per bowler. You can sign up to join a team and get a pledge sheet at the membership meeting on Feb. 10th, or you can contact Nikole Lindley at 203-231-0448. You can contact here by email here.
