Greetings!
President Jim

Welcome to the Shelton Jaycees E-Newsletter!

It's an honor to have been elected to serve as the 55th President of the Shelton Jaycees.  I'm especially psyched about picking up where President Kate left off.  We have a bunch of new members and new officers with new ideas.  For a guy who's been a member as many years as I have, THIS is what keeps the club exciting and fun.

This Sunday January 4th at 5pm YOU are invited to join the Board of Directors meeting for a brainstorming session for 2009!  We'll be at Panera Bread on Bridgeport Ave. where we'll be putting together a list of potential projects for the year and putting them in an online survey.

We'll be open to new project ideas throughout the year so if you can't make it Sunday, you'll have other chances to get something started.  Calendars do fill up fast though and putting up a proposed new project at the annual planning meeting helps the chapter officers build momentum for it!

January 's events are already scheduled-

This Sunday 1/4:   the 2009 Brainstorming Session

Tuesday 1/13:   Membership Meeting & 2009 Officer Swearing In Ceremony

Wed - Tue 1/14-20:   New Member Orientation Nights

Fri. & Sat. 1/30&31:   CT Jaycees 08 Year End Convention Party Weekend

More details and more events below the fold....

2008 was an outstanding year for the Shelton Jaycees!
Let's make 2009 even better!

Sincerely,

Jim Nissen

Kate
I had so much fun serving as chapter president in 2008! Thanks go out to everyone who helped the Shelton Jaycees accomplish so much last year. I now proudly join the exclusive past presidents club!

We had a great finish for 2008!

The weekend of December 13th and 14th our club went on a Holiday Shopping Spree for a local family in need.  The family was selected for us by the Birmingham Health Services foundation, a single mom with a girl age 12 and a boy age 10.

The mom's wish list was simple... food on the table.  The young girl wanted books, clothes and a winter coat. The young boy wanted a remote control car, clothes and a winter coat.

We were able to get everything on their lists and then some.  We purchased two complete outfits for each child with matching shoes and winter coats. We purchased 4 new books for the girl and a '69 Mustang remote control car for the boy. For the mom we purchased a $70 gift card for Stop & Shop.

All totaled we spent several hundred dollars, a little more than we had planned but it was well worth it!

We held an "international"  wrapping party at the Chamber Offices Sunday night with members bringing cookies, eggnog, coffee, and all sorts of food to fuel our wrapping efforts.  Special thanks to everyone involved: Melissa, Michael, Nikole, Jim N., Jim W., and Adrianna  (Adrianna joined us as a guest of Jim W's and is a member of the Jaycees in Germany!)

I'm looking forward to my new role as Chairman of the Board & Executive VP this year!
Hope to see you all this Sunday at the planning session, and at even more events in 2009!

Kate :-)

Pick the night that works best for you.

A small group of officers will explain the four project emphasis areas:

Community Area
Individual Area
Business Area
International Area

We'll talk about how to propose and run new projects, how to join a committee, why we have an age limit, why one year terms, why you can't succeed yourself in any given office, and answer any other questions you might have.

By offering orientations 7 separate nights we'll have smaller groups and you'll be able share your questions and ideas in a more casual atmosphere.
